Dubrovnik itinerary: the walls, the islands and the coast around them
Dubrovnik's Old Town is small, but cruise-ship crowds can fill Stradun by 10 a.m. This prompt has your todo.is agent time the city walls and main streets around the crowds, add a swim on Lokrum, the cable car up Srd and a day trip along the coast, and hand you a PDF with links.
The prompt
- Plan [NUMBER OF DAYS] days in Dubrovnik for [WHO IS TRAVELLING], [TRAVEL DATES]. We're staying in [AREA]. Check the cruise ship schedule for our dates and plan the city walls and Stradun around the busiest hours. Include Lokrum island, the cable car or hike up Srd hill for sunset, a swim spot each day and one day trip to [DAY TRIP]. Suggest 2 places to eat per day, from konoba seafood to a cheap lunch, and [EXTRA]. Add how to get from the airport and how the local buses work. Make it a PDF with map links, email it to me, and don't book anything.

- Day 1: The Old Town and the walls
- • Early morning: walk the city walls at opening, starting from the Ploce Gate entrance. The full loop is about 2 km and takes 1.5 to 2 hours with photo stops. Bring water: there is little shade.
- • Late morning: Stradun, the Franciscan Monastery and its old pharmacy, the Rector's Palace.
- • Lunch: a side-street konoba away from the main street; try black risotto.
- • Afternoon: rest or swim at Banje beach, a short walk from Ploce.
- • Evening: drinks at a cliff-side bar outside the walls, then dinner in the Old Town once the day visitors leave.
- Day 2: Lokrum and Srd hill
- • Morning: ferry from the Old Harbour to Lokrum (about 15 minutes). Botanical garden, the monastery ruins, peacocks and rocky swim spots. The small salt lake is calm for weaker swimmers.
- • Lunch: picnic or the café on the island; return by early afternoon.
- • Late afternoon: cable car up Srd hill, or hike the zigzag path if it is cooler. Stay for sunset over the Old Town and Lokrum.
- • Evening: dinner in Ploce or back down in the old town.
- Day 3: Elaphiti islands
- • Full day: boat trip to Kolocep, Lopud and Sipan, or take the public ferry from Gruz and pick two islands. Lopud has a sandy beach at Sunj, a 30-minute walk or a short cart ride from the port.
- • Evening: back in Dubrovnik, last walk on the quieter lanes near the Jesuit stairs.
- Getting around
- • The airport bus stops near the Pile Gate and at the main bus station in Gruz.
- • Local buses connect Pile, Lapad and Gruz. Buy tickets from kiosks or the driver.
- • The Old Town is car-free and full of stairs. Pack light.
- Good to know
- • May, June and September are warm with fewer crowds than July and August.
- • Cruise days make 9:00 to 14:00 the busiest time inside the walls.
- • Ticket prices and ferry times change: check the official sites before you go.
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and fill in the days, group, dates, area and day trip.
- Paste it on the Today screen in todo.is, or send it to your agent on WhatsApp or Telegram.
- Your agent checks cruise days, sights and ferries and emails you a Dubrovnik PDF with links.
- Reply with changes like "swap Elaphiti for Kotor" and book the tours you choose yourself.
Tips for a better result
- Ask your agent to check the cruise port schedule for your dates. On a day with several ships, do the walls at opening or in the last two hours.
- Staying in Lapad or Gruz is usually calmer and has easy beaches. The bus to Pile Gate takes about 15 minutes.
- If you add Kotor or Mostar, bring your passport: both trips cross a border, and the queues can add time.
- Pack water shoes. Most Dubrovnik beaches are pebbles or rocks.
Dubrovnik itinerary: FAQ
- How many days do you need in Dubrovnik? Two days covers the Old Town, the walls and Srd hill. Three or four days lets you add Lokrum, the Elaphiti islands or a trip to Kotor or Mostar.
- When is the best time to visit Dubrovnik? May, June, September and early October have warm sea and fewer crowds. July and August are hot and busy, and many places close or slow down in winter.
- Can you do Kotor as a day trip from Dubrovnik? Yes. Kotor is about 2 to 3 hours each way depending on the border queue, so it makes a long day. A small-group tour or a hired driver is easiest.
- Can my agent find a place to stay near the Old Town? Yes. It compares areas like Ploce, Pile and Lapad, finds options with links and reviews, and you book directly.
