Instagram captions for restaurants that fill tables, not just feeds
Running a restaurant leaves no time to write captions after service. Send this prompt with your menu and a few dish photos, and your todo.is agent writes a full week of posts: dish spotlights, the special, a kitchen story and a reservation push for your slowest night.
The prompt
- I run [RESTAURANT NAME], a [CUISINE AND VIBE] restaurant in [NEIGHBORHOOD AND CITY]. I attached our menu and [NUMBER] dish photos. Plan 7 Instagram posts for next week and write the captions: 2 dish spotlights (name the ingredients and where they come from if the menu says so), 1 weekly special for [SPECIAL], 1 behind-the-scenes caption about the kitchen or a team member, 1 caption for our slowest night, [SLOW NIGHT], with a reason to come, 1 caption that answers a common guest question (parking, vegetarian options, kids, groups), and 1 caption asking regulars for their go-to order. Each ends with how to reserve: [RESERVATION METHOD]. Give the best day for each post, 8 local hashtags, and save it all as a Word document.
What to change
- [RESTAURANT NAME]: e.g. "Osteria Fiume".
- [CUISINE AND VIBE]: e.g. "family-run Northern Italian, candlelit and casual".
- [NEIGHBORHOOD AND CITY]: e.g. "Fishtown, Philadelphia". Used for local hashtags.
- [NUMBER]: How many photos you attached.
- [SPECIAL]: This week’s special, e.g. "pumpkin ravioli with sage butter, Thursday to Sunday".
- [SLOW NIGHT]: e.g. "Tuesday".
- [RESERVATION METHOD]: e.g. "book on our website (link in bio)" or a phone number.
Example result
- Osteria Fiume · Instagram week (Mon to Sun)
- Monday: dish spotlight
- "Tagliatelle al ragù, the way Nonna Elsa makes it: beef and pork simmered for six hours, pasta rolled every morning by hand. It's been on the menu since day one and it's not going anywhere. Reserve at the link in bio."
- Tuesday: slow-night push
- "Tuesdays at Fiume are quiet, candlelit and the best night to get the corner table. Bring someone you haven't caught up with in a while. Walk-ins welcome, or reserve at the link in bio."
- Wednesday: behind the scenes
- "Meet Marco, our pasta guy. He starts at 7 am, makes about 400 ravioli before lunch, and still argues with the chef about salt. Say hi when you come in."
- Thursday: weekly special
- "New this week: pumpkin ravioli with brown sage butter and toasted hazelnuts. Thursday to Sunday, until the pumpkins run out. Reserve at the link in bio."
- Friday: dish spotlight
- "Branzino al forno: whole roasted sea bass with lemon, capers and olive oil, filleted at your table. Ask for it with the roasted potatoes."
- Saturday: guest question
- ""Do you have vegetarian dishes?" Yes, six of them, including the eggplant parmigiana that meat eaters order too. Groups of 8 or more: call us so we can set up the long table."
- Sunday: regulars
- "Regulars, settle it for the newcomers: what's the one dish everyone should order on their first visit? Wrong answers only from the kitchen team."
- Hashtags

- Posting notes
- • Post dish photos around 11 am and 4 pm, when people decide where to eat
- • Use the Tuesday caption as a Story too, with the reservation link sticker
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and fill in your restaurant, special, slow night and reservation method.
- Attach your menu (PDF or photo) and the dish photos in the todo.is app.
- Your agent plans the week and sends the captions as a Word file you can share with staff.
- Make it a habit: "Every Sunday at 6 pm, ask me for photos and the new special, then plan next week."
Tips for a better result
- Give the slowest night its own reason to come: a dish, a quiet table, a set menu. "Come on Tuesday" alone doesn’t work.
- Staff stories are some of the best performing restaurant posts. Ask the person first and use their first name only.
- Answer guest questions (parking, vegetarian, groups) in captions. It cuts phone calls and DMs.
- Only claim local sourcing the menu backs up. Your agent uses your menu facts, so keep it up to date.
Instagram captions for restaurants: FAQ
- What should a restaurant post on Instagram? A mix of dish close-ups, specials, team and kitchen moments, and practical info like hours or reservations. Real people and real food beat stock-looking graphics.
- How many times a week should a restaurant post? Three to seven posts a week is common, with Stories in between for daily specials. A week planned ahead is easier to keep up than posting after service.
- Can it write captions in two languages? Yes. Ask for each caption in English and a second language, for example for tourist areas.
- Does todo.is post to my restaurant account? No. It writes and plans the posts. You or your team publish them on Instagram.
