Bali itinerary: Ubud, temples and beaches in the right order
Bali looks small, but the traffic between regions can turn a short hop into a two-hour drive. This prompt has your todo.is agent build a Bali itinerary in regional blocks, Ubud for culture and rice terraces, the south for beaches and Uluwatu, plus Nusa Penida or the north if you want, with temple etiquette and a driver plan.
The prompt
- Build a Bali itinerary for [NUMBER OF DAYS] days, [TRAVEL DATES], for [WHO IS TRAVELLING]. Split the trip into region blocks to avoid long drives (e.g. Ubud, then the south), and tell me how many nights in each and why. Include temples (Tirta Empul, Uluwatu, Tanah Lot or others) with sarong and etiquette rules, rice terraces and [EXPERIENCES]. We want [BEACH STYLE]. Say whether a day trip to Nusa Penida is worth it for us. Plan transport with a hired driver per day and rough drive times. 2 food picks a day, including a warung. PDF to my email. Don't book anything.
What to change
- [NUMBER OF DAYS]: E.g. "8". One week is a good first trip.
- [TRAVEL DATES]: E.g. "July". The agent checks Nyepi (the Day of Silence) and the wet season.
- [WHO IS TRAVELLING]: E.g. "couple", "family with kids 5 and 10", "friends".
- [EXPERIENCES]: E.g. "a sunrise hike on Mt Batur", "a yoga class", "a cooking class", "waterfalls".
- [BEACH STYLE]: E.g. "surf", "calm water for kids", "beach clubs".
Example result
- Bali in 8 days, couple
- 4 nights Ubud, 4 nights Uluwatu/Jimbaran · culture, nature and sunsets · July
- Why two bases
- • Ubud is inland, for rice terraces, temples and culture.
- • The Bukit peninsula in the south has the cliffs, surf and sunset temples.
- • Moving once saves hours of traffic compared to day trips from one base.
- Days 1 to 4: Ubud
- • Day 1: arrive at Denpasar airport, drive to Ubud (about 1.5 hours, longer at peak). Evening walk on Jalan Raya Ubud and the palace.
- • Day 2: Tegallalang rice terraces early, then Tirta Empul water temple. Wear a sarong and sash (often provided). The purification ritual has a set order; follow the signs or a guide.
- • Lunch at a warung: nasi campur or babi guling.
- • Day 3: Mt Batur sunrise hike (pickup around 2:00 to 3:00 with a licensed guide), then hot springs.
- • Afternoon: rest. Evening: a Legong dance performance in Ubud.
- • Day 4: Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary (keep food and glasses away from the monkeys), Campuhan Ridge walk, a cooking class.
- Days 5 to 8: Uluwatu and the south
- • Day 5: drive south (about 1.5 to 2 hours). Beach afternoon at Padang Padang or Bingin.
- • Sunset: Uluwatu Temple on the cliff, then the Kecak fire dance (tickets at the gate, arrive early).
- • Day 6: Nusa Penida day trip: Kelingking Beach viewpoint, Crystal Bay snorkelling. It's a long, bumpy day with a boat both ways.
- • Day 7: beach day: Melasti or Nusa Dua's calm water; seafood dinner on Jimbaran beach.
- • Day 8: last swim, airport (about 45 minutes from Jimbaran).
- Temple etiquette
- • Cover legs with a sarong and wear a sash.
- • Don't climb on shrines or stand higher than priests.
- • Women on their period are traditionally asked not to enter temples.
- Good to know
- • April to October is the dry season. November to March brings heavy afternoon rain.
- • Nyepi (Day of Silence) closes the island, including the airport, for 24 hours. Check the date.
- • Hire a driver by the day; it's common and affordable. Agree on hours and stops first.
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt, then fill in days, dates, group, experiences and beach style.
- Paste it on the Today screen in todo.is or send it to your agent on WhatsApp or Telegram.
- Your agent sends a Bali PDF with region blocks, nights per area, temple rules and drive times.
- Ask for changes ("add the Gili Islands", "less driving") and book stays, drivers and tours yourself.
Tips for a better result
- Don't base yourself in one place and day-trip everywhere. Two or three bases saves hours in traffic.
- Check Nyepi before you book flights. The whole island, including the airport, stops for a day.
- For Nusa Penida, ask your agent to pick the 2 or 3 best stops. Roads are rough and slow.
- Ask for a local ceremony calendar. Temple festivals can be beautiful but change access.
