Chart maker from data that picks the right chart for the point
You have the numbers and a meeting tomorrow, but the default spreadsheet chart is cluttered and you're not sure a pie chart is right. Attach the data and tell your todo.is agent the point you want to make. It picks a fitting chart type, labels it clearly, and delivers presentation-ready images plus editable Excel charts.
The prompt
- Make charts from the attached data [FILE NAME]. The point I want to show: [MESSAGE]. Make [NUMBER] charts, choosing the best type for each (line for trends over time, bar for comparing categories, stacked bar for parts of a whole; no 3D, and pie only for 2 to 4 parts). Use a clear title that states the takeaway, label axes with units, start bar axes at zero, highlight [WHAT TO HIGHLIGHT] in [BRAND COLOR] and keep everything else grey. Deliver each chart as a PNG at 1600 x 900 px for slides, plus one .xlsx with the data and editable native Excel charts. Add a one-line caption for each chart I can say out loud.
What to change
- [FILE NAME]: Attach an Excel or CSV file, e.g. "website_traffic_2026.xlsx". You can also paste a small table.
- [MESSAGE]: e.g. "mobile traffic overtook desktop this year" or "our churn dropped after the new onboarding".
- [NUMBER]: e.g. "3".
- [WHAT TO HIGHLIGHT]: e.g. "the mobile line" or "our company bar".
- [BRAND COLOR]: A hex code like "#1F6FEB" or a plain color like "dark teal".
Example result
- Charts from website_traffic_2026.xlsx (example)
- Chart 1 · Line chart
- Title: "Mobile visits passed desktop in March 2026"
- • X axis: month (Oct 2024 to Sep 2026) · Y axis: visits per month (thousands)
- • Mobile line in dark teal, desktop and tablet in grey
- • A label marks the crossing point in March
- • Caption: "Since March, more than half our visitors come from phones."
- • File: chart1_mobile_vs_desktop.png (1600 x 900)
- Chart 2 · Horizontal bar chart
- Title: "Organic search brings the most mobile visitors"
- • Bars sorted from largest to smallest: Organic search 48%, Social 22%, Direct 17%, Email 8%, Paid 5%
- • Axis starts at 0, values printed at the end of each bar
- • Caption: "Half of mobile visitors find us through search."
- Chart 3 · 100% stacked bar
- Title: "Mobile share grew every quarter"
- • One bar per quarter, split into mobile, desktop and tablet
- • Caption: "Mobile went from 41% to 57% of visits in two years."
- Why these chart types
- • Trend over 24 months → a line shows direction best
- • Comparing 5 channels → sorted bars are easier to read than a pie
- • Share over time → 100% stacked bars show the mix changing
- Files
- • 3 PNG images for slides
- • Traffic_Charts.xlsx with the data on one sheet and native Excel charts you can restyle
- Numbers here are fictional. Reply "make them dark-background" or "add our logo" for another version.
How to do it with todo.is
- Attach your data file and copy the prompt with the message you want the charts to show.
- Paste it into todo.is, or send the file to your agent on WhatsApp or Telegram.
- Your agent checks the data, picks chart types and exports images and an Excel file.
- Drop the PNGs into your slides, or ask for changes like "show it as percentages".
Tips for a better result
- Start from the message, not the chart type. "Sales doubled in Q3" tells your agent what to emphasize.
- Use a title that states the takeaway. Readers remember "Churn fell 30%" more than "Churn by month".
- Highlight one thing in color and keep the rest grey. Too many colors hide the point.
- Ask for a PowerPoint slide with the chart and caption if it is going straight into a deck.
chart maker from data: FAQ
- What chart should I use for my data? Lines for change over time, bars for comparing categories, stacked bars for parts of a whole, and scatter plots for relationships between two numbers.
- Can it make charts from a PDF report? Yes. Attach the PDF, and your agent extracts the table and charts it. Check the extracted numbers first.
- Can I edit the charts afterwards? Yes. The Excel file contains native charts you can restyle. The PNGs are fixed images for slides and documents.
- Can it make an animated chart? It can make a short GIF or MP4 that builds a chart step by step, useful for social posts.
