Management consultant resume in the classic consulting format
Consulting firms screen hundreds of resumes per opening, and they read them in a very particular way: tight, one-page, impact-first, every line quantified. This prompt has your agent rewrite your projects as action, scope and result, add leadership and education the way firms like, and deliver a Word file.
The prompt
- Rewrite my resume for a management consulting role: [FIRM AND ROLE, E.G. ASSOCIATE AT A STRATEGY FIRM, OR JOB LINK]. Contact: [NAME, CITY, EMAIL, PHONE]. Education: [SCHOOLS, DEGREES, GPA OR TEST SCORES IF STRONG, HONORS]. Experience: [JOBS AND PROJECTS WITH CLIENT INDUSTRY, YOUR ROLE AND RESULTS]. Leadership and interests: [CLUBS, VOLUNTEERING, SPORTS, LANGUAGES]. Use the consulting format: one page, education near the top if I'm under 3 years out, each bullet starts with a strong verb and ends with a number, no client names unless I mark them public. Give me a Word file and a list of bullets that still need a number.
What to change
- [FIRM AND ROLE, E.G. ASSOCIATE AT A STRATEGY FIRM, OR JOB LINK]: Name the firm type and level (Analyst, Associate, Senior Consultant) or paste the job link.
- [NAME, CITY, EMAIL, PHONE]: Standard contact line. No photo for US and UK firms.
- [SCHOOLS, DEGREES, GPA OR TEST SCORES IF STRONG, HONORS]: Firms still look at grades and honors for early-career hires. Leave out GPA if it isn't strong.
- [JOBS AND PROJECTS WITH CLIENT INDUSTRY, YOUR ROLE AND RESULTS]: Paste your projects or attach your resume. Describe clients by industry and size, e.g. "top-5 European insurer".
- [CLUBS, VOLUNTEERING, SPORTS, LANGUAGES]: A short line at the end. Consultants often get asked about these in fit interviews.

How to do it with todo.is
- Fill in each [bracket]; describe clients by industry if names are confidential.
- Send it from the Today screen or to your agent on WhatsApp, and attach your current resume if you have one.
- Your agent restructures everything into the one-page consulting format and returns a Word file.
- Answer the "still needs a number" list and ask for a final version.
Tips for a better result
- Every bullet should answer "so what?": savings, revenue, time cut, share of network affected.
- Use the firm's words. Strategy firms say "engagement" and "workstream"; Big Four advisory teams often say "project" and "client delivery".
- Keep one page even with 5 years of experience. Screeners are used to dense, short resumes.
- Add a leadership section. Firms look for people who led something outside work.
- Use the same to-do with "prepare 3 case interview stories from this resume" for your first round.
management consultant resume: FAQ
- Should a consulting resume be one page? Yes, for nearly every consulting application up to manager level. Firms expect one tight page.
- Should education go first on a consultant resume? Usually yes if you graduated in the last 2–3 years or apply from a target school or MBA. Experienced hires put experience first.
- Can I name my consulting clients? Only if the work is public or your firm allows it. Most consultants describe clients by industry and size instead.
- Does a consulting resume need a summary? Most firms don't expect one. The prompt skips it unless you're switching industries and need to explain the move.
