Math homework helper that explains every step
An answer key tells you what, not why, and that is where math homework gets stuck. Snap a photo of the problem and your own attempt, and this prompt has your todo.is agent read it, find the exact step where things went wrong, explain the method in plain words at your level, and give you a similar problem to try on your own.
The prompt
- Help me with this math homework: [PROBLEM OR PHOTO]. I am in [GRADE OR COURSE] and we use [METHOD OR TEXTBOOK]. Here is my attempt: [MY WORKING]. First tell me if my answer is right. If not, point to the exact line where my working goes wrong and why. Then explain the method step by step in simple words, checking the arithmetic by calculation, and show how to check the final answer. Do not just give the answer to the other problems on the page. End with one similar practice problem with a different number, and send me its solution only when I reply with my answer.
What to change
- [PROBLEM OR PHOTO]: Type the problem, or attach a clear photo of the worksheet or textbook page and say which number.
- [GRADE OR COURSE]: E.g. "7th grade", "Algebra 1", "GCSE Higher", "Calculus I".
- [METHOD OR TEXTBOOK]: E.g. "the box method for multiplication", "completing the square", or the textbook name. Or "any".
- [MY WORKING]: Type your steps or attach a photo. Write "none, I'm stuck" if you have not started.
Example result
- Problem 14 (Algebra 1)
- Solve: 3(x − 4) + 2 = 2x + 5
- Your answer: x = 7. Not quite.
- Your working:
- • Line 1: 3(x − 4) + 2 = 2x + 5
- • Line 2: 3x − 4 + 2 = 2x + 5
- • Line 2 is where it goes wrong. The 3 must multiply both terms in the bracket: 3 × x and 3 × (−4). You wrote −4 instead of −12.
- The method, step by step
- • Step 1: expand the bracket. 3(x − 4) = 3x − 12, so the equation is 3x − 12 + 2 = 2x + 5
- • Step 2: combine like terms. −12 + 2 = −10, so 3x − 10 = 2x + 5
- • Step 3: get x on one side. Subtract 2x from both sides: x − 10 = 5
- • Step 4: get x alone. Add 10 to both sides: x = 15
- Check it
- Put x = 15 into the original equation:
- • Left: 3(15 − 4) + 2 = 3 × 11 + 2 = 35
- • Right: 2 × 15 + 5 = 35
- • Both sides match, so x = 15 is correct.
- Why this mistake is common
- When a number sits outside a bracket, it is easy to multiply only the first term. Draw two little arrows from the 3 to each term inside before you write anything.
- Your turn
- Solve: 4(x − 3) + 1 = 3x + 6
- Reply with your answer and your steps, and I will check them.
How to do it with todo.is
- Take a clear photo of the problem and of your own working, or type them.
- Send them with the to-do to your agent in todo.is, or on WhatsApp or Telegram.
- Your agent replies with what went wrong, the method step by step and a practice problem.
- Reply with your answer to the practice problem. Ask for "explain it more simply" or "another one" any time.
Tips for a better result
- Always send your own attempt. Finding your exact mistake teaches more than seeing a full solution.
- Say which method your class uses. A different method can confuse you before a test.
- Check every answer by putting it back into the original problem. It catches most errors.
- Parents: ask your agent to explain the method as it is taught today, so you can help without confusing your child.
math homework helper: FAQ
- Can it read a photo of my math homework? Yes. Send a clear, well-lit photo. Handwriting usually works; for messy pages, say which problem number you mean.
- Does it just give answers? This prompt asks for explanations, a check of your working and a practice problem, so you learn the method. It also double-checks its arithmetic by calculation.
- What levels of math does it cover? Primary and middle school math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics and university courses like calculus and linear algebra.
- Is it allowed to use for homework? Many schools are fine with help that explains methods, but rules differ. Check your class policy, and hand in work you understand and did yourself.
