Morocco itinerary: Marrakech, the Sahara and the imperial cities
Morocco's classic loop links Marrakech, the Atlas, the Sahara dunes and Fes, but the distances are long and the desert leg takes three days. This prompt asks your todo.is agent to plan a Morocco route that fits your days, with trains where they help, a sensible desert crossing, riads in each medina and a guide where you need one.
The prompt
- Plan a Morocco itinerary for [NUMBER OF DAYS] days, [TRAVEL DATES], for [WHO IS TRAVELLING], from [START CITY] to [END CITY]. Include Marrakech, the High Atlas, Aït Benhaddou, the Dades or Todra gorge, a night in a desert camp at [DESERT], Fes and [EXTRAS]. Compare a private driver, a group tour and self-drive for the desert leg, and use trains where they're faster. Tell me if Ramadan falls on our dates and how it changes things. Suggest a riad per city and when a licensed guide helps (Fes medina). Our budget style is [BUDGET STYLE]. Send a PDF day by day with drive times, a dress and etiquette note, and links. Don't book anything.
What to change
- [NUMBER OF DAYS]: E.g. "10". Eight to twelve days fits Marrakech, the desert and Fes.
- [TRAVEL DATES]: E.g. "12 to 22 April". Spring and autumn are best; desert summers are extreme.
- [WHO IS TRAVELLING]: E.g. "couple", "family with teens", "two friends".
- [START CITY]: E.g. "Marrakech", "Casablanca", "Tangier".
- [END CITY]: E.g. "Fes", "Tangier", "Marrakech".
- [DESERT]: E.g. "Merzouga (Erg Chebbi)" or "Zagora (closer, smaller dunes)".
- [EXTRAS]: E.g. "Chefchaouen", "Essaouira", "Volubilis and Meknes", "a cooking class", "a hammam".
- [BUDGET STYLE]: E.g. "budget riads", "mid-range", "luxury camp and riads".

Tips for a better result
- Go one way: Marrakech to the desert to Fes. Going back to Marrakech adds a long day of driving.
- Hire a licensed guide for your first morning in Fes. The medina is a maze, and the guide helps with the bargaining too.
- In the desert, bring a warm layer. Nights in the dunes can be cold even when days are hot.
- Ask your agent to remember your riad preferences (roof terrace, quiet street) for future trips.
Morocco itinerary: FAQ
- How many days do you need in Morocco? A week covers Marrakech, the desert and Fes at a quick pace. Ten to fourteen days lets you add Chefchaouen, Essaouira or the Atlas.
- Is Merzouga or Zagora better for the desert? Merzouga's Erg Chebbi has the tall, classic Sahara dunes. Zagora is closer to Marrakech but the dunes are much smaller.
- When is the best time to visit Morocco? March to May and September to November. Summer is very hot inland, and winter nights in the desert and mountains are cold.
- What should I wear in Morocco? Light, loose clothes that cover shoulders and knees, comfortable shoes for medinas, and a warm layer for desert nights.
