MOV to MP4 converter for iPhone and Mac videos
MOV files from an iPhone or a Mac screen recording often will not play on Windows, an Android phone or a website upload, and they are huge. Your todo.is agent converts them to a standard MP4 (H.264 video, AAC audio), keeps them upright and sharp, and makes them much smaller.
The prompt
- Convert the attached MOV video(s) to MP4: [ATTACH THE MOV FILES]. Use H.264 video and AAC audio so it plays everywhere. Resolution: [RESOLUTION]. Target: [QUALITY OR SIZE]. Keep the original frame rate and orientation. [HDR]. Tell me the size before and after, and check the MP4 plays from start to finish with sound in sync.
What to change
- [ATTACH THE MOV FILES]: Attach .mov files from your iPhone, Mac or camera, up to 50 MB each.
- [RESOLUTION]: E.g. "keep the original", "1080p" or "720p for email".
- [QUALITY OR SIZE]: E.g. "high quality, no visible loss" or "under 25 MB".
- [HDR]: E.g. "convert HDR to normal colours so it does not look washed out on other devices" or "keep HDR".
Example result
- MOV to MP4: 3 iPhone videos
- Source: IMG_6101.MOV, IMG_6102.MOV, IMG_6108.MOV · 4K HDR HEVC · 142 MB total
- Result: 3 MP4 files · 1080p · H.264 + AAC · 46 MB total
- Files
- • Birthday_party_1080p.mp4 · 1:12 · 21 MB (was 68 MB)
- • Cake_candles_1080p.mp4 · 0:38 · 11 MB (was 35 MB)
- • Garden_games_1080p.mp4 · 0:51 · 14 MB (was 39 MB)
- What your agent did
- • Codec: iPhones record HEVC (H.265) inside MOV. Many Windows PCs, older TVs and some websites cannot play it. H.264 MP4 plays on almost everything
- • HDR: the clips were Dolby Vision HDR. On normal screens HDR video looks grey and washed out, so colours were converted to standard range with natural skin tones
- • Resolution: 4K scaled to 1080p, which looks sharp on phones, laptops and TVs and cuts the size a lot
- • Quality: encoded at a high-quality setting (CRF 20); no visible difference at normal viewing
- • Orientation: the vertical video stayed vertical
- • Sync: each file was checked to make sure sound matches the picture all the way through
- Tips for sharing
- • WhatsApp compresses videos again; send as a document to keep this quality
- • For YouTube, upload the original MOV if you can: it re-encodes everything anyway
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and choose resolution, size target and HDR handling.
- Attach the MOV files in todo.is, or send them as documents to your agent on WhatsApp.
- Your agent converts each video and checks that it plays with sound in sync.
- Ask for changes like "make the first one under 10 MB" or "keep 4K for this one".
Tips for a better result
- If colours look grey after you share an iPhone video, it is usually HDR. Ask for standard colour (SDR) when converting.
- 1080p is the best size-to-quality choice for most sharing. Keep 4K only for editing or big screens.
- On iPhone, Settings, Camera, Formats, Most Compatible records H.264 directly, but files are bigger.
- Send several clips at once and ask for one merged MP4 if they belong together.
MOV to MP4 converter: FAQ
- Why will my MOV file not play on Windows? iPhone MOV files usually use the HEVC codec, which many Windows setups cannot play without an extension. Converting to H.264 MP4 fixes it.
- Does MOV to MP4 lose quality? Re-encoding always changes the video a little, but at a high-quality setting the difference is not visible.
- Why does my iPhone video look washed out on other devices? It was recorded in HDR. Converting to standard colour range makes it look right on normal screens.
- Can I make the video smaller for email? Yes. Give a size limit, like 20 MB, and your agent lowers resolution or bitrate to fit.
