Remove object from photo and fill the gap so nobody notices
The perfect shot of the Colosseum has a stranger walking through it, or the living room photo has a cable, a bin and a laundry basket in it. This prompt has your todo.is agent remove exactly what you name, rebuild what was behind it, and leave the rest of the photo untouched.
The prompt
- In the attached photo, remove [WHAT TO REMOVE]. Fill the space with what would naturally be behind it, matching the texture, light and lines of the surrounding area. Do not change [KEEP UNCHANGED] or anything I did not mention. Keep the original size and save as a JPG. Then show me a before and after side by side, and tell me which spots were hardest so I can zoom in on them.
What to change
- [WHAT TO REMOVE]: Be precise with location, e.g. "the man in the blue jacket on the right", "the power lines across the sky", "the red bin by the door".
- [KEEP UNCHANGED]: What must stay, e.g. "my face and my friend's", "the shop sign", "the people at the table".
Example result
- Object removal: tram photo in Lisbon
- Source: lisbon_tram.jpg · remove the two tourists on the left and the green bin · keep the tram, the driver and the shop signs
- Files delivered
- • lisbon_tram_clean.jpg: full size, objects removed
- • lisbon_tram_before_after.jpg: original on the left, edited on the right
- What was rebuilt
- • Behind the two tourists: the yellow wall, the tile pattern on the step and the tram rail were continued, following the same perspective lines
- • Where the bin stood: cobblestones filled in to match the size and spacing of the ones around them
- • Shadows: the tourists' shadows on the street were removed too, so no dark patch is left behind
- Hardest spots, worth a zoom
- • The tram rail behind the left tourist: the curve was rebuilt and lines up, but check it at 100%
- • The tile pattern at the door: pattern repeats are the easiest place to spot an edit
- What removes cleanly and what does not
- • Easy: people against a wall or sky, wires, small rubbish, spots and stains, a car in the distance
- • Harder: a person in front of a detailed pattern, someone overlapping your subject, large objects covering half the frame
- • Not a good idea: removing watermarks from photos you do not own, or editing out things in a way that misleads, such as a damage photo for insurance or a property listing
- Getting a cleaner result
- • Name one object per line if there are several
- • If there is a second photo of the same scene without the object, attach it; the agent can use the real background from it
How to do it with todo.is
- Attach your photo and copy the prompt into todo.is.
- Describe what to remove with its position and colour, and what must stay exactly as is.
- Send it, then compare the clean photo with the before and after image.
- If a spot looks smudged, reply with where it is, e.g. "the step under the door", for another pass.
Tips for a better result
- Use position words ("bottom left", "behind my shoulder") so the agent removes the right thing.
- Ask to remove shadows and reflections too, or a ghost outline can stay on the ground or in windows.
- Patterned areas like tiles, fences and brick show edits most; check them first.
- Burst shots or two photos taken seconds apart give the agent real background to work with.
remove object from photo: FAQ
- Can AI remove a person from a photo? Yes. Describe who to remove and where they are, and the agent fills the space with matching background. Check the result closely if the person overlapped someone else.
- Will removing an object change the rest of my photo? The prompt says to leave everything else alone, and most of the photo stays the same. AI edits can still shift small details, so compare faces and text with the original.
- Can it remove a watermark? It will not remove watermarks or logos from images you do not own the rights to. For your own photos, say that it is your image and what to remove.
- What photo quality do I need? The sharper and bigger the original, the more natural the fill. Very small or blurry photos give the AI less to work with.
