Savings plan: monthly targets for every goal you have
Saving "whatever is left" at the end of the month rarely works. This prompt has your todo.is agent turn your goals into dated targets, split what you can save between them, find where the money comes from in your spending, and set a payday reminder so the transfer actually happens.
The prompt
- Make me a savings plan. My take-home pay is [MONTHLY INCOME] and I can realistically save about [MONTHLY SAVINGS AMOUNT]. My goals are: [GOALS WITH AMOUNT AND DATE]. Work out how much each goal needs per month, tell me if the dates are realistic, and suggest an order or a split if I can't do them all. Suggest which type of account suits each goal (easy access or fixed term) without naming specific products as advice. Give me an Excel tracker with a sheet per goal, planned vs actual, and progress bars. Then every [PAYDAY], message me on Telegram with the exact amounts to move to each goal.
What to change
- [MONTHLY INCOME]: After tax, with currency, e.g. "2,800 EUR".
- [MONTHLY SAVINGS AMOUNT]: A number you can keep up, e.g. "450". Not sure? Attach a bank export and ask your agent to suggest one.
- [GOALS WITH AMOUNT AND DATE]: E.g. "holiday 1,800 by July; car 6,000 by next December; house deposit 20,000 in 4 years".
- [PAYDAY]: E.g. "25th of each month at 10:00" or "every other Friday".
Example result
- Your savings plan
- Take-home: 2,800 · Saving: 450 a month · 3 goals (illustrative numbers)
- Goals and monthly targets
- • Summer holiday: 1,800 by July (9 months). Needs 200 a month.
- • Car replacement: 6,000 by next December (14 months). Needs 430 a month.
- • House deposit: 20,000 in 4 years. Needs 420 a month.
- Total needed: 1,050 a month. You have 450, so the plan sets an order.
- The plan
- • Months 1–9: holiday 200, car 250. Holiday is fully funded in July.
- • Months 10–14: car gets 450. You reach about 4,500 by December, 1,500 short. Options: push the car to March, or buy a cheaper one.
- • From month 15: house deposit gets 450. With small yearly raises it lands in about 4.5 years, not 4.
- Where the extra 100 could come from
- • Two unused subscriptions: about 30
- • Lunch from home 2 days a week: about 50
- • Selling items you don't use: a one-off boost
- Where to keep each pot
- • Holiday and car: easy-access savings, because you need the money within 2 years
- • House deposit: longer-term savings; ask about accounts for first-time buyers in your country
- • Keep each goal in a separate account or labelled pot so you never "borrow" from it by accident
- Payday routine (sent on Telegram)
- "Payday. Move 200 to Holiday and 250 to Car today. Holiday is at 1,000 of 1,800 (56%)."
- In the Excel file
- • One sheet per goal with planned and actual deposits
- • Progress bars that fill as you enter amounts
- • A summary sheet showing every goal's status on one page
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and fill in your income, a realistic monthly amount, and each goal with a target and a date.
- Paste it into todo.is, or send it to your agent on Telegram or WhatsApp. Attach a bank export if you want it to find spare money.
- You get the plan, an Excel tracker, and a recurring payday message.
- Reply "I saved 300 this month" and your agent updates the tracker and tells you if you're on pace.
Tips for a better result
- Automate the transfer for payday itself. Money saved on day one is spent less often than money saved on day 30.
- Give each goal a name and a date; vague goals like "save more" are easy to skip.
- Ask your agent to search current easy-access savings rates in your country with source links, then compare them yourself.
- Review the plan every 6 months or after any pay change.
savings plan: FAQ
- How much of my income should I save? A common starting point is 20% under the 50/30/20 rule, but any steady amount beats none. Start with what you can keep up and raise it after each pay rise.
- Should I save for several goals at once? You can split the money, but short, urgent goals usually come first. Your agent shows the trade-off on your numbers.
- Does todo.is move money for me? No. It plans, tracks and reminds you. You make the transfers in your bank app.
- Is this financial advice? No. It's a planning tool using mainstream guidelines. For investments or pensions, talk to a qualified financial adviser.
