Abs workout plan for a strong core, not just crunches
A hundred crunches a day won't give you visible abs, and it won't make your core strong either. Abs show when body fat is low enough, and they get stronger with a few hard, progressive moves. This prompt has your todo.is agent build a short abs workout plan that trains every job your core does, and is honest about the diet side.
The prompt
- Make me a 6-week abs workout plan. I can do [CURRENT CORE LEVEL]. I'll add it to my training [DAYS PER WEEK] times a week, about [MINUTES] minutes at the end of my workouts. Equipment: [EQUIPMENT]. Back or neck issues: [LIMITS]. Cover anti-extension, anti-rotation, flexion and lateral moves, with sets, reps or time and how to progress each one. Avoid moves that strain my lower back if I mentioned issues. Explain briefly what it takes for abs to become visible. Give me a one-page PDF I can save on my phone, and remind me on WhatsApp on [REMINDER DAYS] at [REMINDER TIME].
What to change
- [CURRENT CORE LEVEL]: E.g. "a 40-second plank, 10 crunches, no hanging leg raises".
- [DAYS PER WEEK]: E.g. "3".
- [MINUTES]: E.g. "10".
- [EQUIPMENT]: E.g. "gym with cables and a pull-up bar", "mat only", "ab wheel and a band".
- [LIMITS]: E.g. "lower back gets sore with sit-ups", or "none".
- [REMINDER DAYS]: E.g. "Monday, Wednesday, Friday".
- [REMINDER TIME]: E.g. "19:00".
Example result
- 6-week abs plan: 10 minutes, 3 times a week
- Plank 40 s, 10 crunches, no hanging leg raises · gym with cables and pull-up bar · lower back sore with sit-ups
- What your core does
- • Anti-extension: stops your lower back arching (planks, ab wheel)
- • Anti-rotation: stops twisting (Pallof press)
- • Flexion: curls the spine (cable crunch, leg raises)
- • Lateral: stops side bending (side plank, suitcase carry)
- Session A (Mon and Fri)
- • Dead bug: 3 x 8 each side. Lower back pressed into the floor, breathe out as you reach.
- • Cable crunch: 3 x 12. Curl your ribs toward your hips; don't just bow from the hips.
- • Side plank: 2 x 30 s each side
- Session B (Wed)
- • Hanging knee raise: 3 x 8. Tilt the pelvis up at the top, no swinging.
- • Pallof press: 3 x 10 each side, 2-second hold
- • Suitcase carry: 3 x 20 m each hand
- Progressions
- • Dead bug → ab wheel from knees (week 3) → longer rollouts (week 5)
- • Hanging knee raise → straight-leg raise to 90° once you hit 3 x 12
- • Side plank → side plank with top leg raised
- • Cable crunch: add weight when you hit 15 reps on all sets
- • Sit-ups are left out on purpose; cable crunches and dead bugs are kinder on your back
- When will abs show?
- • Visible abs depend mostly on body fat, not on ab training. Many men see outlines at roughly 10 to 15% and many women at roughly 18 to 22%, but it varies a lot.
- • If that's your goal, a modest calorie deficit and high protein do more than extra sets of crunches
- Weekly check
- • Week 1: plank 40 s · week 6 target: ab wheel 3 x 8 from knees, side plank 45 s with leg raised
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and add your current level, days, minutes, equipment and any back issues.
- Paste it into todo.is or send it to your agent on WhatsApp so reminders land in the same chat.
- You get a one-page PDF and a WhatsApp reminder on your chosen days.
- When the moves get easy, tell your agent and ask for the next 6 weeks with harder progressions.
Tips for a better result
- Train abs like any other muscle: fewer, harder sets with progression beat hundreds of easy reps.
- Breathe out fully at the hardest point of each rep. It makes the abs work much harder.
- Three short sessions a week is enough. Abs recover fast, but they still need rest.
- Ask your agent for a weight loss meal plan if visible abs are the goal.
abs workout plan: FAQ
- Can you get a six pack just from ab workouts? Not usually. Ab exercises make the muscles stronger and slightly bigger, but whether you see them mainly depends on body fat, which is mostly down to diet.
- How often should I train abs? Two to four times a week is plenty. Short, hard sessions at the end of your workouts work well.
- Are planks or crunches better? They train different jobs. Planks train your core to resist movement; crunches train it to curl. A balanced plan uses both, plus side and rotation work.
- Is it safe to train abs with back pain? Gentle moves like dead bugs and bird dogs are often fine, but back pain has many causes. Ask a physio or doctor if it is ongoing.
