Cancun itinerary: beach days, cenotes and Mayan ruins
Cancun is easy to land in and hard to plan well. The Hotel Zone is long, the best ruins are hours away and the sargassum season can change which beach you want. This prompt has your todo.is agent balance pool days with day trips to cenotes, Chichén Itzá, Tulum or Isla Mujeres, with early starts where they matter.
The prompt
- Plan a Cancun itinerary for [NUMBER OF DAYS] days, [TRAVEL DATES], for [WHO IS TRAVELLING]. We are staying at [HOTEL OR AREA]. Mix beach days with day trips and never put two long drives back to back. Choose from Isla Mujeres by ferry, Chichén Itzá with Valladolid and a cenote, Tulum ruins with Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, or the eco-parks, based on what we like: [INTERESTS]. Give drive times, the earliest sensible departure for each trip, and whether a rental car, ADO bus or tour is the better option. Check the current sargassum outlook for the Caribbean coast and suggest the calmest beaches. Add one local food spot per day (downtown taquerías, Mercado 28). Make a PDF and email it to me. Don't book anything, just send links.
What to change
- [NUMBER OF DAYS]: E.g. "5". With 4 or fewer days, pick one big day trip.
- [TRAVEL DATES]: E.g. "12 to 17 March". Hurricane season runs June to November, so the agent will flag weather risks.
- [WHO IS TRAVELLING]: E.g. "couple", "family with kids aged 6 and 10", "group of friends".
- [HOTEL OR AREA]: Your resort name, or "Hotel Zone", "downtown", "Playa del Carmen". Say if you're all-inclusive.
- [INTERESTS]: E.g. "snorkeling, Mayan history, no theme parks" or "pool time and good tacos".

How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and fill in your days, dates, group, hotel and interests.
- Paste it on the Today screen in todo.is, or message it to your agent on WhatsApp or Telegram.
- Your agent checks drive times, the seaweed outlook and ferry options, then emails you a PDF.
- Reply with changes like "swap Tulum for Cozumel snorkeling" and book the tours you like yourself.
Tips for a better result
- Do Chichén Itzá on a weekday and arrive at opening. By noon it is hot and crowded.
- Ask your agent to compare a rental car with a tour for each day trip. For Valladolid plus cenotes, a car usually wins.
- If you travel in late spring or summer, ask for a sargassum check the week before you fly and a backup beach plan.
- Keep the first and last days light. Airport transfers in the Hotel Zone take longer than the map suggests.
Cancun itinerary: FAQ
- How many days do you need in Cancun? Four to five days lets you do two or three day trips and still have beach time. A week adds Cozumel, Holbox or Bacalar.
- When is the best time to visit Cancun? December to April is dry and sunny but busiest. June to November is hurricane season, and sargassum seaweed is usually heaviest in late spring and summer.
- Is it better to stay in the Hotel Zone or downtown? The Hotel Zone has the beaches and resorts. Downtown is cheaper with better local food, and buses connect the two.
- Can my agent plan a trip to Holbox or Bacalar too? Yes. Add them to the prompt and it works out ferries, buses or driving times and moves the beach days around them.
