Copywriter resume: a prompt that writes it like a campaign
A copywriter resume is itself a writing sample, so a dull list of duties hurts more here than anywhere. This to-do has your agent study the job ad and your campaign results, write tight, punchy bullets about conversions and launches, and give you a clean Word file with your portfolio up top.
The prompt
- Write a one-page copywriter resume for [JOB TITLE AT COMPANY, OR JOB LINK]. Me: [NAME, CITY, EMAIL, PORTFOLIO LINK]. My work so far: [AGENCIES, BRANDS, DATES AND WHAT YOU WROTE: ADS, EMAILS, LANDING PAGES, SCRIPTS]. Results I can claim: [CONVERSION LIFTS, OPEN RATES, AWARDS, LAUNCHES]. Write a 2-line summary with a strong hook, bullets that lead with the result, a skills line with the channels from the posting, and keep it ATS-friendly. Give me a Word file and 3 alternative summary lines to choose from.
What to change
- [JOB TITLE AT COMPANY, OR JOB LINK]: The role and company, e.g. "Senior Copywriter at Northbeam", or paste the job link.
- [NAME, CITY, EMAIL, PORTFOLIO LINK]: Your contact line. The portfolio link is the most important part for copywriters.
- [AGENCIES, BRANDS, DATES AND WHAT YOU WROTE: ADS, EMAILS, LANDING PAGES, SCRIPTS]: Paste your history or attach your old resume. Mention the types of copy: performance ads, email, UX copy, video scripts, packaging.
- [CONVERSION LIFTS, OPEN RATES, AWARDS, LAUNCHES]: For example "landing page rewrite lifted sign-ups 27%", "email series with 41% open rate", "Cannes Lions shortlist 2023".

How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and replace the [brackets] with your role, contact line, history and results.
- Paste it into todo.is and press Get it done, or send it as a message to your agent.
- Pick one of the three summary hooks your agent writes, or ask for three more.
- Download the .docx and ask for a PDF version for the application form.
Tips for a better result
- Lead each bullet with the outcome ("sign-ups rose 27%") and then say what you wrote. That order is itself good copy.
- Use the posting's channel words: performance, lifecycle, UX writing, brand. Recruiters search for them.
- Keep jokes and wordplay to the summary line. The rest should be clean and easy to scan.
- If results are under NDA, describe the client by type ("a top-10 US bank") and the size of the lift only if you're allowed.
- Your portfolio does the heavy lifting, so check that the link works and opens on your strongest piece.
copywriter resume: FAQ
- Should a copywriter resume be creative or simple? Simple layout, sharp words. Creative layouts often break in applicant tracking systems; your portfolio is the place for design.
- What results should a copywriter put on a resume? Conversion or sign-up lifts, email open and click rates, campaign reach, launches you led and awards. If you lack numbers, show scope: channels, volume and brands.
- Do I need a portfolio as a copywriter? Almost always. Most hiring managers look at the portfolio before the resume, so link it in the header.
- Can it also write my cover letter? Yes. Add "also write a matching cover letter" and your agent creates both from the same details.
