Job application email with your CV attached, ready to send
Some jobs ask you to "send your CV to jobs@" with no form and no instructions. That email is your first impression, and many people get it wrong with a blank body or a vague subject. Your todo.is agent reads the posting and your CV, follows any instructions in the ad, and writes a short, professional job application email.
The prompt
- Write a job application email for the [JOB TITLE] job at [COMPANY]. Here is the posting: [JOB POSTING LINK OR TEXT]. Read it carefully and follow any instructions it gives (subject line format, reference number, documents to include). My CV is attached: [ATTACH YOUR CV]. Write a 4-paragraph email under 180 words: the role and where I saw it, my 2 most relevant strengths with examples, why this company, and a polite close. Name the files with my full name, [YOUR FULL NAME], like "Name CV.pdf" and "Name Cover Letter.pdf". If I only attached a Word file, convert it to PDF. Save it as a Gmail draft to the address in the posting, with the files attached. Do not send it.
What to change
- [JOB TITLE]: E.g. "Junior Accountant".
- [COMPANY]: E.g. "Mercer & Hale Accountants".
- [JOB POSTING LINK OR TEXT]: Paste the link or the full ad text, including the email address.
- [ATTACH YOUR CV]: Attach your CV as PDF or Word. Add a cover letter too if the posting asks for one.
- [YOUR FULL NAME]: Your name as it should appear on the files, e.g. "Aisha Rahman".
Example result
- The email
- To: careers@mercerhale.co.uk
- Subject: Application: Junior Accountant (Ref JA-0925), Aisha Rahman
- Dear Hiring Team,
- I am writing to apply for the Junior Accountant position (Ref JA-0925) advertised on your website.
- I recently finished my ACCA Applied Skills exams and spent the last 18 months as an accounts assistant at Fenwick Supplies. There I handled month-end reconciliations for 12 bank accounts and helped cut our closing time from eight days to five. I am confident with Xero, Sage and Excel, including pivot tables and XLOOKUP.
- I would like to join Mercer & Hale because of your focus on small family businesses, which are the clients I enjoy working with most.
- Please find my CV and cover letter attached. I would welcome the chance to discuss how I can support your team, and I am available for an interview at your convenience.
- Kind regards,
- Aisha Rahman

- Checklist before sending
- • The subject line follows the format in the ad, with any reference number
- • Files are PDF, named with your full name, and open correctly
- • You used a professional email address
- • Your phone number is in the signature
- • You checked the company name is right everywhere (a classic copy-paste mistake)
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and fill in the [brackets], then attach your CV (and cover letter if needed).
- Paste it into todo.is on the Today screen or send it to your agent on WhatsApp with the files.
- Your agent reads the ad, writes the email, converts and renames your files and saves the Gmail draft.
- Open the draft, check the attachments and send it yourself.
Tips for a better result
- Read the ad for instructions. If it says "use reference JA-0925 in the subject", applications without it may be filtered out.
- Send PDFs, not Word files. They look the same on every device. Your agent converts them for you.
- Keep the email body short. It is a cover note; the details go in your CV and cover letter.
- Do not leave the body empty. An email with only an attachment looks rushed and may land in spam.
job application email: FAQ
- What should I write in the body of a job application email? The role you are applying for, two strengths that match it, one line on why this company, and a polite close that mentions your attachments.
- What is a good subject line for a job application email? Use the format the ad asks for. If there is none, "Application: [Job Title], [Your Name]" is clear and easy to search.
- Should the cover letter be in the email or attached? If the ad asks for a cover letter, attach it as a PDF and keep the email short. If not, the email body can act as a short cover letter.
- Does todo.is send the application for me? It saves a ready Gmail draft with the files attached. You review and send it yourself.
