AI resume writer: a prompt that builds your resume for you
Most AI resume tools give you a generic template. This prompt has your todo.is agent read the job posting, match your experience to it, and hand you a finished, ATS-friendly resume as a Word file you can edit.
The prompt
- Write my resume for the job at [JOB POSTING LINK]. My name is [YOUR NAME], I live in [CITY], email [EMAIL]. Here is my experience: [PASTE YOUR CURRENT RESUME OR LIST YOUR JOBS, DATES AND WHAT YOU DID]. Read the job posting, use its keywords, rewrite my experience as achievements with numbers, keep it to one page, ATS-friendly (no tables or columns), and give me a Word file plus a short list of what you changed.
What to change
- [JOB POSTING LINK]: The link to the job ad (LinkedIn, Indeed, the company site). Your agent opens and reads it.
- [YOUR NAME]: Your full name as it should appear at the top.
- [CITY]: City and country, or "Remote".
- [EMAIL]: The email recruiters should use.
- [PASTE YOUR CURRENT RESUME OR LIST YOUR JOBS, DATES AND WHAT YOU DID]: Paste your old resume or LinkedIn "Experience" text. Rough notes are fine; you can also attach your old resume as a file.

How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and replace everything in [brackets] with your details.
- Paste it into todo.is on the Today screen (or send it to your agent on WhatsApp or Telegram) and press Get it done.
- Your agent reads the job posting, writes the resume and gives you a Word file to download.
- Ask for changes in plain words, like "make it two pages" or "add my Python course".
Tips
- Use one resume per job: paste a new job link each time and your agent tailors it again.
- Attach your old resume as a file instead of pasting it, if it’s long.
- Add "also write a matching cover letter" at the end to get both in one go.
- Your agent remembers your experience, so next time just send the new job link.
FAQ
- Is the resume ATS-friendly? Yes. The prompt asks for a single-column layout without tables, text boxes or photos, which applicant tracking systems read reliably, and it uses the keywords from the job posting.
- What file do I get? A Word (.docx) file you can open in Word or Google Docs and edit. Ask for a PDF too if the application needs one.
- Can it read a LinkedIn job post? Usually yes. If a site needs you to be signed in, connect your own Chrome with the todo.is Connector or paste the job description into the prompt instead.
- Is my data private? Your resume stays in your own agent’s private workspace. Only your agent uses it, and you can delete it any time.
