Markdown to Word converter with real styles your colleagues can edit
You write in Markdown, but your client, manager or university wants a Word file. Pasting the text loses headings, tables and code formatting. Your todo.is agent builds a proper .docx with Word heading styles, real tables, a table of contents and readable code blocks, so others can edit it like any Word document.
The prompt
- Convert the attached Markdown to a Word document: [ATTACH THE .MD]. Map # headings to Word Heading 1, 2 and 3 styles so the navigation pane works, and add a table of contents at the top. Turn Markdown tables into real Word tables with a shaded header row. Put code blocks in a monospace font with a light gray background. Keep links clickable and embed images from these files or links: [IMAGES]. Use [FONT AND SIZE], [PAGE SIZE] and page numbers in the footer. Send me the .docx.
What to change
- [ATTACH THE .MD]: Attach one or more .md files, or paste the Markdown.
- [IMAGES]: Attach the image files the Markdown links to, give public URLs, or write "none".
- [FONT AND SIZE]: E.g. "Calibri 11", "Times New Roman 12 for a paper" or "match the attached template".
- [PAGE SIZE]: E.g. "A4" or "US Letter".
Example result
- Markdown to Word: handbook.md
- 2,840 words · 14 pages A4 · Calibri 11 · page numbers in the footer
- How each Markdown element was converted
- • # Title → Word Title style on the first page
- • ## and ### → Heading 1 and Heading 2, so they appear in the navigation pane and the table of contents
- • Bold, italic, `inline code` → bold, italic and Consolas text
- • Bullet and numbered lists → Word list styles, nesting kept up to 3 levels
- • Tables (6) → real Word tables with a shaded, repeating header row
- • Code blocks (9) → Consolas 9.5 pt on a light gray background, line breaks and indentation kept
- • Links → clickable hyperlinks
- • Images (3) → embedded and scaled to the page width, alt text kept as captions
- • > Quotes → indented Quote style
- • Task lists "- [ ]" → check box characters
- Table of contents
- Inserted on page 2, linked to every heading. In Word, right-click it and choose Update Field after you edit headings.
- Things to check
- • One image link (diagram-v2.png) was not attached, so a placeholder box shows where it goes
- • A very wide table (9 columns) was set to landscape on its own page so it stays readable
- • Footnotes written as [^1] became real Word footnotes
- The document uses Word styles only, no direct formatting. Change the Heading 1 style once and every heading updates.
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and set the font, page size and any images.
- Paste it into todo.is with the .md file attached, or send the Markdown to your agent on WhatsApp or Telegram.
- Your agent converts every element to proper Word styles and builds the table of contents.
- Download the .docx. Ask for a PDF copy or a different template in the same chat.
Tips for a better result
- Attach a Word template (.docx) with your company styles. Your agent applies its fonts, colors and heading styles.
- Use one # heading for the title and ## for sections. Skipping levels makes the table of contents uneven.
- For academic papers, say the citation style and line spacing, such as double-spaced APA.
- Converting docs often? Ask your agent to remember your font and page settings for next time.

- Can I convert GitHub-flavored Markdown? Yes. Tables, task lists, strikethrough and fenced code blocks are supported.
- Can I use my company's Word template? Yes. Attach the template .docx and your agent applies its styles to the converted document.
