Translate a website page by page, SEO included
You want a Spanish or German version of your site, but copying text page by page into a translator takes days and forgets menus, buttons and meta titles. Your todo.is agent opens your site in a browser, collects the text from each page, translates it and gives you a tidy file your developer or site builder can use.
The prompt
- Translate my website [WEBSITE URL] into [TARGET LANGUAGES]. Open these pages: [PAGES TO TRANSLATE, OR ALL PAGES IN THE MENU]. For each page, collect the visible text, menu items, buttons, image alt text, SEO title and meta description, then translate them for [TARGET COUNTRY OR AUDIENCE] in a [TONE] tone. Keep the brand name and product names as they are. Suggest a translated URL slug for each page and keep SEO titles under 60 characters. Deliver [FORMAT, E.G. AN EXCEL FILE WITH ONE ROW PER TEXT, OR JSON LANGUAGE FILES] and a short list of what I need to add on the site, such as hreflang tags and a language switcher.
What to change
- [WEBSITE URL]: Your site address, e.g. "northpeakyoga.com".
- [TARGET LANGUAGES]: E.g. "Spanish", or "French and German".
- [PAGES TO TRANSLATE, OR ALL PAGES IN THE MENU]: E.g. "home, pricing, about, contact" or "all pages in the menu".
- [TARGET COUNTRY OR AUDIENCE]: E.g. "Mexico", "France and Belgium" or "German-speaking customers".
- [TONE]: E.g. "friendly, tú", "professional, Sie".
- [FORMAT, E.G. AN EXCEL FILE WITH ONE ROW PER TEXT, OR JSON LANGUAGE FILES]: Ask for the format your site builder or translation plugin imports, such as CSV for a WordPress plugin.
Example result
- Website translation: northpeakyoga.com → Spanish (Mexico)
- 8 pages · 214 text strings · friendly tone, tú
- Spreadsheet layout
- Columns: Page · Element · English · Spanish · Character count
- Sample rows
- • Home · SEO title · "Online Yoga Classes for Beginners | North Peak" → "Clases de yoga en línea para principiantes | North Peak"
- • Home · Meta description · "Live and on-demand yoga classes you can do at home. Try 7 days free." → "Clases de yoga en vivo y grabadas para hacer en casa. Prueba 7 días gratis."
- • Home · Button · "Start free trial" → "Empieza tu prueba gratis"
- • Menu · Link · "Pricing" → "Precios"
- • Pricing · Heading · "Simple plans, cancel anytime" → "Planes sencillos, cancela cuando quieras"
- • About · Image alt · "Instructor leading a morning class" → "Instructora guiando una clase por la mañana"
- Suggested URLs
- • /pricing → /es/precios
- • /about → /es/nosotros
- • /classes/beginners → /es/clases/principiantes
- To add on your site
- • A language switcher in the header (English / Español)
- • hreflang tags on every page, so Google shows the Spanish page to Spanish searchers (for example hreflang="es-mx" pointing to the Spanish URL)
- • The Spanish URLs in your sitemap
- • Translated forms, emails and checkout text, which are not on public pages, so send them separately
- Notes
- • Titles use natural Spanish search phrases like "clases de yoga en línea" instead of copying English word order.
- • 3 SEO titles were shortened to stay under 60 characters.
- • 2 banners have text inside the image, which cannot be edited as text. The Spanish wording is in the sheet for your designer.
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and add your website address, the languages and which pages to include.
- Send it from the Today screen in todo.is; your agent opens the pages in a cloud browser.
- Get an Excel file (or JSON language files) with every text, its translation and its length.
- Hand the file to your developer or paste it into your site builder's language settings. Ask for edits or new pages any time.
Tips for a better result
- Translate menus, buttons, alt text and meta descriptions too. A page with a translated body but English buttons feels unfinished and ranks worse.
- Give each language its own URL (/es/, /de/) and add hreflang tags. A browser translate button does not create pages Google can index.
- If your site runs on WordPress, Shopify or Webflow, ask for the file format your translation plugin imports, such as CSV or JSON.
- Set a monthly recurring to-do that checks your English pages for changes and translates only the new or edited text.
translate a website: FAQ
- What is the best way to translate a website? Create a separate page for each language with translated text, menus and SEO fields, and link the versions with hreflang tags. This works better for SEO than an automatic translate widget.
- Can todo.is publish the translated website for me? Your agent prepares the translated text and files, but it does not change your own server or site builder. It can publish a simple static preview page with a public link if you want one.
- Does translating my website help SEO? Yes, when each language has its own indexable URLs, translated titles and descriptions, and the words people actually search for in that language.
- Can it translate pages behind a login? In the cloud browser your agent sees public pages only. For logged-in areas, use the todo.is Connector with your own Chrome, or export the text and attach it.
