Trim video clips to the exact seconds you want
The first 20 seconds of your recording are you fiddling with the camera, and the good bit ends at 3:42. Or a webinar has a 10-minute break in the middle. Tell your todo.is agent the timestamps. It cuts exactly there, keeps the quality, fades the edges if you want, and sends back a clean MP4.
The prompt
- Trim the attached video [ATTACH THE VIDEO]. Keep [WHAT TO KEEP]. Remove [WHAT TO CUT]. Cut at the nearest clean frame so there is no frozen picture or audio pop at the edges, and add [FADES]. Keep the original resolution and quality; only re-encode the parts that need it. Send me the trimmed MP4 with its new length.
What to change
- [ATTACH THE VIDEO]: Attach the video (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM; up to 50 MB per upload).
- [WHAT TO KEEP]: E.g. "from 0:18 to 3:42", "the last 30 seconds" or "the part where the cake is cut".
- [WHAT TO CUT]: E.g. "the break from 12:05 to 21:40", "the 'um, is it recording?' at the start" or "nothing else".
- [FADES]: E.g. "a 0.5-second fade in and out", "a soft cross-fade where the middle part was removed" or "no fades".
Example result
- Trim report: Product_demo_raw.mp4
- Before: 4:10 · 1080p · 30 fps · 48 MB
- After: 3:24 · 1080p · 30 fps · 39 MB
- Cuts made
- • Removed 0:00 to 0:18: setting up the camera, checking the microphone
- • Kept 0:18 to 3:42: the full demo, from "Hi, I'm Jonas" to the closing "see you next time"
- • Removed 3:42 to 4:10: reaching for the stop button
- Clean edges
- • The cut at 0:18 lands on the first frame where you look at the camera, not mid-blink
- • A 0.5-second fade from black at the start and to black at the end
- • Audio fades in and out over the same 0.5 seconds, so there is no click at the cut
- Quality
- • The middle of the video was copied without re-encoding, so it is identical to the original
- • Only the first and last seconds were re-encoded for the fades, at the same quality
- • Picture and sound stay in sync
- Ways to describe a trim
- • Exact timestamps: "from 1:05 to 2:30"
- • Relative: "cut the first 10 seconds and the last 5"
- • By what happens: "start when she says welcome", "end after the applause". Your agent transcribes the audio to find the moment
- • Several parts: "keep 0:10-0:40, 2:00-2:45 and 5:10-5:30, joined together"
- Next ideas
- • "Add subtitles to the trimmed video"
- • "Make a 30-second vertical version for Reels"
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and write the timestamps to keep or cut.
- Attach the video and paste the prompt in todo.is on the Today screen, or send it to your agent on WhatsApp or Telegram as a file.
- Your agent cuts it at clean frames, adds fades if you asked and checks the sound.
- Download the MP4. If a cut is off by a second, reply "start one second later".
Tips for a better result
- If you don't know the exact time, describe the moment ("after she says thank you"). Your agent can find it in the speech.
- Cutting without re-encoding keeps perfect quality but can only cut at certain frames. Your agent re-encodes just the edges when you need a precise cut.
- Short fades at the start and end make any clip feel finished. Half a second is enough.
- Removing a middle section? A quick cross-fade hides the jump better than a hard cut.
trim video: FAQ
- How do I trim the beginning and end of a video? Give the start and end times you want to keep, like "0:18 to 3:42". Your agent cuts the rest and keeps the quality.
- Can I cut a part out of the middle of a video? Yes. Give the start and end of the part to remove, and your agent joins the remaining pieces, with a soft transition if you like.
- Does trimming a video lose quality? No, if most of the video is copied directly. Only the cut points may be re-encoded, at the same quality.
- Can it trim several videos the same way? Yes. Attach them and say, for example, "cut the first 5 seconds from each".
