Compare phone plans using your real data, calls and travel
Plan pages show the monthly price in big numbers and hide the rest: intro offers that end, data that slows down, roaming charges. Attach your current bill and your todo.is agent works out what you really use, then compares carriers and budget brands on the total cost over 12 months.
The prompt
- Compare phone plans for me in [COUNTRY OR REGION]. My current plan and usage: [CURRENT BILL OR USAGE]. I need [MUST-HAVES]. Check the big carriers and the cheaper brands that use their networks. For each good option give the monthly price, the price after any intro offer ends, data and what happens after the limit, hotspot, roaming, contract length, and the total for 12 months including fees. Mention network coverage in [WHERE I LIVE AND WORK] using the carriers' public coverage maps. Recommend the best 3 and tell me how much I would save versus my current plan. Put the comparison in an Excel file with a link for every plan.
What to change
- [COUNTRY OR REGION]: e.g. "the US", "Canada" or "the UK".
- [CURRENT BILL OR USAGE]: Attach a recent bill (PDF or screenshot), or write e.g. "$65 a month, 1 line, about 12 GB data".
- [MUST-HAVES]: e.g. "2 lines, keep my number, 10 days a year in Mexico, no contract".
- [WHERE I LIVE AND WORK]: Towns or postcodes, e.g. "Dayton, OH and rural Greene County".
Example result
- Your current plan
- Big carrier unlimited plan, 1 line, $72 a month with taxes and fees. Last 3 bills: 10.9, 12.4 and 12.1 GB used. You rarely use hotspot. You spend about 10 days a year in Mexico.
- You pay for unlimited data but use about 12 GB.
- Top 3 options (examples, check current offers)
- 1. Budget brand on the same network · 15 GB plan
- • Monthly: lower than now, no contract
- • After 15 GB: speed slowed, not cut off
- • Mexico: not included, day pass available
- • 12-month total: about $290 less than your current plan
- 2. Carrier's own mid-tier plan · 30 GB
- • Includes Mexico and Canada roaming
- • Intro price for 12 months, then goes up: shown in the sheet as both prices
- • 12-month total: about $150 less than now
- 3. Prepaid annual plan · 20 GB a month
- • Pay once for the year, cheapest per month
- • Needs a one-time upfront payment
- • 12-month total: about $260 less than now
- Coverage
- All 3 use the same network you have today, so coverage at home and in rural Greene County should match what you get now. The public map shows weaker coverage on the county roads east of town for one competing network, so I left that one out.
- Before you switch
- • Don't cancel your plan first. Port your number by signing up with the new provider.
- • Check if your phone is paid off and unlocked.
- • Ask your current carrier for a retention offer. They sometimes match.
- All prices and links are in the spreadsheet. Plans change often, so check the carrier's page before you sign up.
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and add your country, current plan or bill, must-haves and where you need coverage.
- Attach your latest bill (PDF or a screenshot) and send the to-do in todo.is or on WhatsApp.
- Your agent reads your real usage, compares plans with fees and post-promo prices, and sends the Excel file.
- Ask follow-ups like "what if we add a line for my son", then switch on the carrier's site yourself.
Tips for a better result
- Check your real data use for 3 months. Many people pay for unlimited data and use far less.
- Compare 12-month totals, not monthly prices. Intro discounts and activation fees change the winner.
- Budget brands often run on the big networks, so coverage can be the same for less money.
- Ask your agent to remind you a month before an intro price ends, as a one-time scheduled to-do.
compare phone plans: FAQ
- How do I compare phone plans? Start with your real usage from recent bills, then compare total yearly cost, data limits, what happens after the limit, roaming and coverage where you live.
- Will I keep my number if I switch? In most countries you can transfer your number to a new provider. Start the switch with the new provider before cancelling the old plan.
- Are budget phone plans worse? Not always. Many use the same towers as the big carriers, but some get lower priority when the network is busy. Check the plan's terms.
- Does todo.is sign me up for the new plan? No. Your agent compares plans and gives you links. You sign up and pay on the provider's website yourself.
