English speaking practice on WhatsApp, every day by voice note
You understand English well but freeze when you need to speak, and classes do not fit your schedule. This prompt turns your todo.is agent into a patient speaking partner on WhatsApp: it starts a conversation on a daily topic, replies to your voice messages like a real person, and saves the corrections for the end so you can keep talking.
The prompt
- Be my English speaking partner on WhatsApp. My level is [YOUR LEVEL] and I want to talk about [TOPICS YOU LIKE]. Every [DAYS AND TIME], start a conversation with a voice note: one question about the day’s topic. I will answer with voice messages. Reply naturally with a short voice note and a follow-up question, like a friend would, for about [MINUTES] minutes. Do not correct me during the chat. When I write "done", send a text summary: 3 to 5 mistakes I made with the correct version, 5 useful words or phrases I could have used, and one sentence I said well. Keep a list of my repeated mistakes and bring one of them into the next conversation.
What to change
- [YOUR LEVEL]: E.g. "B1, I understand a lot but speak slowly" or "beginner".
- [TOPICS YOU LIKE]: E.g. "football, cooking, my job in logistics, travel plans". Your agent rotates them.
- [DAYS AND TIME]: E.g. "every weekday at 20:30" or "Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 7:00".
- [MINUTES]: E.g. "10". Short daily chats work better than one long one a week.
Example result
- Today's conversation: weekend plans
- Level B1 · 11 minutes · 7 voice messages
- Agent (voice): Hi Karim! Any plans for the weekend, or are you keeping it quiet?
- You (voice, transcribed): Hi, yes I am going to visit my cousin in Alexandria, we will go to the beach if the weather is good.
- Agent (voice): Nice. Is that a trip you make often, or a special visit?
- You: Not often, maybe two times in a year. He is just married so it is special.
- *(The chat continued about food in Alexandria, the train, and Karim's cousin's wedding.)*
- Your corrections
- • "two times in a year" → "twice a year"
- • "He is just married" → "He just got married" or "He's newly married"
- • "I am agree with you" → "I agree with you"
- • "We were eating many fish" → "We ate a lot of fish" (fish is usually uncountable here)
- Phrases you could have used
- • "It's a bit of a trip, but it's worth it"
- • "We're hoping the weather holds up"
- • "I haven't seen him since the wedding"
- • "It depends on the traffic"
- • "I'll let you know how it goes"
- You said this well
- "If the weather is good, we will go to the beach." Correct first conditional, natural word order.
- Your repeated mistakes (3 chats)
- • "I am agree" (3 times). Tomorrow's chat will give you chances to use "I agree / I don't agree".
- Next chat
- Thursday 20:30: your job. First question: what does a normal Monday look like for you?
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and add your level, favourite topics, days and chat length.
- Send it to your todo.is agent on WhatsApp. It saves the schedule and opens the first conversation at the time you chose.
- Reply with voice messages and keep talking; the agent answers like a conversation partner.
- Write "done" to get your corrections, or "slower please" if the voice notes are too fast.
Tips for a better result
- Answer in at least two sentences each time. Short "yes" or "no" replies give the agent nothing to correct.
- Do not prepare your answers. The point is to practise thinking in English under a little time pressure.
- Ask for a role play once a week, such as a job interview, a hotel complaint or a call with a supplier.
- Use Telegram, Slack or Discord instead if that is where you spend your day; the practice works the same way.
English speaking practice on WhatsApp: FAQ
- Is it like talking to a real person? It is a text-to-speech voice and a transcribed conversation, so it is not a live phone call. Many learners find that helpful: there is no pressure, and you can take a second before replying.
- Does it work for beginners? Yes. Say "beginner" and your agent uses short questions, slow voice notes and simple words, and adds the text under each voice note.
- How much does it cost? todo.is costs $1 for the first 24 hours, then a monthly plan with AI credits included. Voice notes use some credits, so check your plan for how much daily practice it covers.
- Can I practise on Telegram instead? Yes. Connect Telegram in todo.is and send the same prompt there.
