Image of a table to Excel converter: from photo to spreadsheet
A price list on a wall, a timetable in a screenshot, a table in a printed report or a photo of a whiteboard grid: retyping it cell by cell is slow and error-prone. Your todo.is agent reads the image, rebuilds the exact rows and columns in Excel, turns numbers into real numbers and checks any totals.
The prompt
- Turn the table in the attached image into an Excel sheet: [ATTACH THE IMAGE]. Keep the same rows and columns, with [HEADER] as the header row. Split merged cells so each row has its own value. Make numbers real numbers and dates real dates in [DATE FORMAT]. If the table has totals, check them and highlight any that do not add up. Highlight cells you could not read with confidence in yellow. If there are several images, [MULTIPLE]. Send me the .xlsx.
What to change
- [ATTACH THE IMAGE]: Attach a photo, screenshot or scan (JPG, PNG, HEIC). Several images are fine.
- [HEADER]: E.g. "the first row", "the first two rows combined" or "Product, Size, Price".
- [DATE FORMAT]: E.g. "DD/MM/YYYY", "MM/DD/YYYY" or "no dates".
- [MULTIPLE]: E.g. "put them on one sheet in order" or "one sheet per image".
Example result
- Image of a table to Excel: photo of a printed delivery schedule
- 1 photo, taken at an angle · 42 data rows · 7 columns · 3 subtotal rows
- Columns rebuilt
- Date | Route | Driver | Stops | Pallets | Weight (kg) | Notes
- Clean-up done
- • The photo was straightened and the shadow on the right side removed before reading
- • "Route" was a merged cell covering 6 rows each time. It was split so every row has its route (A1, A2, B1...)
- • "1.240 kg" became the number 1240 in a column formatted with thousands separators
- • Dates like "Mon 3/11" became 03/11/2026 (day-first, as requested)
- • Empty cells kept empty, not filled with zeros
- Totals check
- • Week 1 subtotal of Pallets: printed 86, rows add up to 86. Match
- • Week 2 subtotal of Pallets: printed 94, rows add up to 92. Highlighted red: one value in the image may be misread or the printed total is wrong
- • Week 3 subtotal of Weight: printed 18,450, rows add up to 18,450. Match
- Cells to verify (yellow)
- • Row 17, Stops: "8" or "6" (glare on the paper)
- • Row 31, Notes: handwritten "call before" partly cut off
- In the file
- Header row bold and frozen, filters on, a "Source" column with the image name for each row, and number formats set so you can sum and sort right away.
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and say which row is the header and how dates are written.
- Attach the image in todo.is, or send the photo to your agent on WhatsApp or Telegram.
- Your agent rebuilds the table in Excel and checks the totals.
- Download the .xlsx, look at the highlighted cells and reply with fixes if needed.
Tips for a better result
- Fill the frame with the table and keep the camera parallel to the page. Angled photos make columns drift.
- Avoid glare on glossy paper. Turn off the flash and tilt the page slightly away from the light.
- Totals are a built-in check. If a total does not match, you know exactly which block to look at.
- For a table in a PDF, use the PDF to Excel prompt instead. Reading the PDF directly is more accurate than a picture.
image of a table to Excel converter: FAQ
- Can I convert a picture of a table to Excel? Yes. Your agent reads the photo or screenshot, rebuilds the rows and columns in a spreadsheet and gives you an .xlsx file.
- Does it work with handwritten tables? Neat handwritten tables usually work. Messy handwriting gives more uncertain cells, which are highlighted for you to check.
- What about merged cells and multi-row headers? Merged cells are split so each row has its own value, and multi-row headers are combined into one clear header per column.
- Can I get Google Sheets instead? The .xlsx opens in Google Sheets, and with Google connected your agent can save it to your Drive.
