Website uptime monitor that checks the page, not just the server
A site can answer "200 OK" while the checkout is broken or the page shows a database error. This to-do sets up a recurring check where your todo.is agent loads your key pages, confirms a word that should be there actually appears, measures load time, and messages you only when something is wrong, plus a short weekly uptime summary.
The prompt
- Monitor these pages for uptime: [PAGE LINKS]. Check them [HOW OFTEN]. A page counts as up only if it loads with status 200 within [MAX LOAD TIME] and contains the text [TEXT THAT MUST APPEAR]. If a check fails, check again after 2 minutes to rule out a blip. If it fails twice, message me on [WHERE TO ALERT ME] with the page, the error or status code, the load time and a screenshot. Message me again when it is back up, with how long it was down. Also check that the SSL certificate is valid for more than 14 days. Every Monday at 9:00 send a summary: uptime % per page, slowest checks and any incidents. Keep a log in a CSV file.
What to change
- [PAGE LINKS]: Your most important pages, e.g. homepage, booking page and login page.
- [HOW OFTEN]: e.g. "every hour" or "every 30 minutes during business hours". Each check uses a few credits.
- [MAX LOAD TIME]: e.g. "10 seconds". Slower than this counts as a problem.
- [TEXT THAT MUST APPEAR]: A word or phrase that only shows when the page works, e.g. "Add to cart" or "Book a table".
- [WHERE TO ALERT ME]: WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord or email.
Example result
- Alert · Booking page down (example)
- Page: osteriaverde.com/book
- First failed: Oct 8, 19:00 · Confirmed: 19:02
- Problem: status 502 Bad Gateway, the text "Book a table" was not found
- Load time: 11.8 s
- Screenshot: attached (shows "502 Bad Gateway, nginx")
- The homepage and menu page are up, so the problem is likely the booking system, not the whole server.
- Recovery
- Back up at: 19:46 · Down for: about 46 minutes (between checks)
- Weekly summary · Oct 1 to Oct 7
- • Homepage: 100% up · average load 2.1 s
- • Menu page: 100% up · average load 2.6 s
- • Booking page: 98.8% up · 2 incidents · average load 3.4 s
- Incidents this week
- • Oct 3, 21:00 to 21:30: booking page timed out (over 10 s)
- • Oct 6, 12:00: one failed check, fine on the re-check, not counted
- Other checks
- • SSL certificate valid until Dec 19, no action needed
- • Slowest check: booking page on Saturday at 20:00, 8.9 s (busy evening)
- Suggestion
- The booking page fails on busy evenings. Ask your booking provider or host whether the plan has enough capacity for peak hours.
- Log file: Uptime_Log.csv (date, time, page, status, load time, result).
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and add your pages, the schedule and a word that proves the page works.
- Paste it into todo.is, or send it to your agent on WhatsApp so alerts arrive in the same chat.
- Your agent sets up the recurring check and runs the first one right away so you can see the result.
- Change it any time, e.g. "check every 15 minutes on Fridays and Saturdays" or "add my login page".
Tips for a better result
- Pick check text from the working part of the page, like a button label, not the header. Error pages often still show your header.
- Check the pages that make money (booking, checkout, contact form), not only the homepage.
- The re-check after 2 minutes avoids waking you up for one slow request.
- Checks run on a schedule, so very short outages between checks can be missed. Hourly is a good balance of cost and coverage.
website uptime monitor: FAQ
- What is a website uptime monitor? A tool that checks your site on a schedule and alerts you when it doesn't load or shows an error. This one also checks that a key word appears, so broken pages that still load are caught.
- How often should I check my website? Every 15 to 60 minutes is common for business sites. More frequent checks catch problems sooner but use more credits.
- Can it restart my server when the site is down? No. It tells you quickly, with the error and a screenshot, so you or your host can fix it.
- What does 99.9% uptime mean? About 43 minutes of downtime a month. Your weekly summary shows the percentage measured by your own checks.
