YouTube description generator with chapters from your video
Writing timestamps by hand means scrubbing through your own video for half an hour. With this prompt your todo.is agent reads your video file or transcript, writes the opening lines viewers see above "more", builds accurate chapters, and adds your links in a clean layout you can paste into YouTube Studio.
The prompt
- Write a YouTube description for my video. I attached [VIDEO FILE OR TRANSCRIPT]. The video title is [VIDEO TITLE] and my channel is about [CHANNEL TOPIC]. Transcribe it if needed, then write: 2 opening sentences under 150 characters that include the main search phrase naturally, a short paragraph on what viewers will learn, chapters with real timestamps starting at 0:00 (at least 3, each 10 seconds or longer), my links: [YOUR LINKS], and a line inviting viewers to [CALL TO ACTION]. Add 3 hashtags and a list of 10 tags for the tags field. Plain text only so I can paste it straight into YouTube Studio.
What to change
- [VIDEO FILE OR TRANSCRIPT]: Attach the video (up to 50 MB), an audio export, or a transcript. A shorter audio file uploads faster.
- [VIDEO TITLE]: The title you will publish with.
- [CHANNEL TOPIC]: e.g. "home espresso for beginners".
- [YOUR LINKS]: Website, newsletter, gear list, socials, sponsor link with any code.
- [CALL TO ACTION]: e.g. "subscribe for weekly brewing guides" or "download the free recipe card".

- Notes
- • The first 2 lines are what shows above "more" in search and on the watch page, so the main phrase "dial in espresso at home" is there.
- • Chapters start at 0:00 and each is longer than 10 seconds, so YouTube can show them on the progress bar.
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt, fill in the [brackets] and attach your video, audio or transcript.
- Send it from the todo.is web or Android app. Large videos upload more reliably from the app than from chat.
- Your agent transcribes the video and returns a ready-to-paste description with chapters and tags.
- Paste it into YouTube Studio. Ask your agent to remember your links block so next time you only send the video.
Tips for a better result
- Front-load the opening two lines. They show in search results, so say what the video solves in plain words.
- Chapters only appear if the first one is 0:00 and there are at least three. Your agent follows that format for you.
- Keep a standard links block and ask your agent to always add it at the bottom of every description.
- Ask for an SRT subtitle file from the same transcript. Uploading captions makes the video easier to watch muted.
YouTube description generator: FAQ
- How long should a YouTube description be? There is a 5,000 character limit, but 200 to 400 words is plenty for most videos. The first 2 lines matter most because they show before "more".
- How do I add chapters to a YouTube video? Add a list of timestamps in the description, starting with 0:00, with at least three chapters that are each 10 seconds or longer. YouTube turns them into chapters automatically.
- Do tags still matter on YouTube? Tags play a small role, mostly for misspellings and related terms. The title, description and the video itself matter much more.
- Can todo.is upload the description to YouTube for me? No. Your agent writes it and you paste it into YouTube Studio yourself.
