Google Ads copy that fits every character limit
Responsive search ads want 15 headlines and 4 descriptions, all inside strict character limits, and they still need to match what people type. This prompt has your todo.is agent read your page, check what competitors say in search ads, and write a full set that is counted to the character.
The prompt
- Write Google Ads copy for a responsive search ad. My business: [BUSINESS AND OFFER]. Landing page: [LANDING PAGE URL]. Main keywords: [KEYWORDS]. Location: [WHERE YOU SELL]. Search Google for these keywords and note what competitor ads promise, then write: 15 headlines, each 30 characters or less (include the main keyword in at least 3, plus price or offer, proof, urgency and a call to action), 4 descriptions of 90 characters or less, 4 sitelinks with 2 description lines each, and 6 callout extensions. Show the character count next to every line. What makes us different: [YOUR DIFFERENCE]. Save it as a CSV I can use as a checklist when I build the ad.
What to change
- [BUSINESS AND OFFER]: e.g. "emergency plumber, same-day callout" or "online bookkeeping for freelancers".
- [LANDING PAGE URL]: The page the ad will link to.
- [KEYWORDS]: 2 to 5 keywords from your ad group, e.g. "emergency plumber leeds, 24 hour plumber".
- [WHERE YOU SELL]: A city, region or country.
- [YOUR DIFFERENCE]: e.g. "no call-out fee, fixed prices, 60-minute arrival".

How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and fill in your business, landing page, keywords, area and what makes you different.
- Send it in todo.is or to your agent on Slack or email. It searches Google for competitor ads in your area.
- You get the full set with character counts plus a CSV to work from in Google Ads.
- Build the ad yourself, then ask for a new set per ad group, e.g. "same for blocked drains keywords".
Tips for a better result
- One theme per ad group. Copy that matches the exact keyword gets better quality scores than a catch-all ad.
- Write headlines that make sense in any order. Google mixes them, so each one has to stand alone.
- Only promise what you can keep. "60 minutes" in the ad and a 3-hour wait in real life means bad reviews.
- Make it monthly: a recurring to-do that rechecks competitor ads for your keywords and suggests fresh headlines.
Google Ads copy: FAQ
- What are the character limits for Google Ads? In responsive search ads, headlines are up to 30 characters and descriptions up to 90 characters. You can add up to 15 headlines and 4 descriptions.
- How many headlines should a responsive search ad have? Give Google as many good, different headlines as you can, ideally 10 to 15, so it has enough to test combinations.
- Should I pin headlines in Google Ads? Pin only when a line must always show, like a legal note or your brand. Pinning too much limits the testing that makes these ads work.
- Can todo.is manage my Google Ads account? No. Your agent researches and writes the copy. You create the ads, set budgets and pay in Google Ads yourself.
