About us page that tells your story and builds trust
An about page is one of the most visited pages on many small business sites, and it often says the least. Answer a few questions in this prompt and your todo.is agent turns your answers into an about us page with a real origin story, what you believe, who is on the team and a clear next step.
The prompt
- Write an About Us page for [BUSINESS NAME], which [WHAT YOU DO AND FOR WHOM]. Here is our story in rough notes: [HOW AND WHY YOU STARTED]. What we care about: [YOUR VALUES OR PROMISES]. The team: [TEAM NAMES, ROLES AND ONE FUN FACT EACH]. Proof: [YEARS, CUSTOMERS, AWARDS OR "NONE YET"]. Write it for our customers, not for us: open with what we do for them, then the origin story in under 150 words with one specific moment, 3 values with an example of each in practice, the team section, and a closing call to action to [NEXT STEP]. Tone: [TONE]. Keep it between 350 and 600 words. Give me 2 opening lines to choose from and a short 50-word version for social profiles.
What to change
- [BUSINESS NAME]: e.g. "Tallow & Thread".
- [WHAT YOU DO AND FOR WHOM]: e.g. "makes natural soap for people with sensitive skin".
- [HOW AND WHY YOU STARTED]: The real story in a few lines. Messy notes are fine.
- [YOUR VALUES OR PROMISES]: e.g. "short ingredient lists, plastic-free shipping, honest labels".
- [TEAM NAMES, ROLES AND ONE FUN FACT EACH]: Or just the founder if you work alone.
- [YEARS, CUSTOMERS, AWARDS OR "NONE YET"]: Only real facts. Your agent will not make them up.
- [NEXT STEP]: e.g. "shop the starter set" or "visit our market stall".
- [TONE]: e.g. "warm and down to earth".
Example result
- Opening options
- 1. We make soap for skin that reacts to almost everything.
- 2. If your skin stings after washing, this page is for you.
- About Tallow & Thread
- We make soap for skin that reacts to almost everything. Every bar has six ingredients or fewer, and every one of them is on the front of the label.
- How it started
- In 2019 our founder, Leah, was a nurse washing her hands up to 60 times a shift. Her hands cracked and bled, and the creams from the pharmacy only made it worse. One night she wrote down every ingredient in every product she had tried and crossed out anything she could not pronounce. There was almost nothing left. So she made her own bar in her kitchen, from tallow, olive oil and oats. Her colleagues asked for one. Then their families did. Tallow & Thread started on a folding table at the Saturday market in Hebden Bridge.
- What we care about
- • Short ingredient lists. If a bar does not need fragrance, it does not get fragrance. Our best seller has four ingredients.
- • Honest labels. We print every ingredient on the front, not in tiny print on the back.
- • Plastic-free shipping. Paper tape, card boxes and paper wrap. You can compost all of it.
- The team
- • Leah, founder and soap maker. Still makes every first batch of a new recipe by hand.
- • Owen, packing and shipping. Can wrap a bar in 11 seconds. We timed it.
- • Priya, customer care. Answers every email herself, usually the same day.
- Where we are now
- Five years on, we make about 2,000 bars a month in a small workshop above the old mill, and you can still find us at the Saturday market.
- Try it
- New to sensitive-skin soap? Start with the starter set: three small bars so you can find the one your skin likes.
- Short version for social profiles
- Natural soap for sensitive skin, made in Hebden Bridge since 2019. Six ingredients or fewer, all on the front of the label. Started by a nurse whose hands needed it.
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and answer each [bracket] in a few rough lines. Real details matter more than polish.
- Paste it on the Today screen in todo.is, or send voice notes with your story to your agent on WhatsApp.
- Your agent writes the full page, two opening options and a short social version.
- Add team photos, publish the page yourself, and ask for edits like "less formal" or "shorter story".
Tips for a better result
- Start with the customer, not "Founded in". The first line should tell visitors they are in the right place.
- Use one specific moment in your story. "Washing her hands 60 times a shift" sticks; "a passion for skincare" does not.
- Show faces. Team photos with first names make a small business feel real.
- Send a voice note instead of typing. Your agent transcribes it and keeps the way you naturally tell the story.
about us page: FAQ
- What should an about us page include? Who you help and how, your origin story, what you value, the people behind the business and a clear next step. Add real proof like years in business if you have it.
- How long should an about us page be? Most good about pages are 300 to 800 words. Long enough for a real story, short enough to scan.
- Should an about us page be written in first person? Either works. "We" feels warm for small teams, and "I" fits solo founders. Pick one and use it all the way through.
- Will todo.is make up a story for my business? No. Your agent shapes the facts you give it into a clear story and leaves gaps marked if something is missing.
