App icon generator: one icon, every size your app stores need
An app icon has to say what your app is in a tiny square on a busy home screen. This prompt has your todo.is agent design three concepts, test them at small sizes, and then export every size you need for iOS and Android from one 1024 x 1024 master, including Android adaptive icon layers.
The prompt
- Design an app icon for [APP NAME], an app that [WHAT THE APP DOES]. Style: [STYLE]. Colours: [COLOURS]. Symbol idea: [SYMBOL IDEA]. Make 3 concepts as 1024 x 1024 PNG with no text, no transparency, and square corners (the stores round them). Keep one clear symbol filling about 70% of the canvas. Show each at 60 px and 29 px on a light and a dark wallpaper. When I pick one, use Pillow to export every size for [PLATFORMS], an Android adaptive icon (432 x 432 foreground with a transparent background, and a background layer), and a 512 x 512 icon for the Google Play listing, all in a ZIP with the right folder names.
What to change
- [APP NAME]: E.g. "Pocket Budget".
- [WHAT THE APP DOES]: E.g. "tracks daily spending with quick one-tap entries".
- [STYLE]: E.g. "flat and friendly", "glossy 3D", "minimal line icon", "gradient like modern fintech apps".
- [COLOURS]: E.g. "teal to green gradient with white", or "suggest colours that stand out from other finance apps".
- [SYMBOL IDEA]: E.g. "a coin in a pocket", "a leaf", "the letter P", or "suggest one".
- [PLATFORMS]: "iOS and Android", "iOS only", "Android only", or "web app (PWA)".
Example result
- App icon for Pocket Budget
- Tracks daily spending with one-tap entries · flat and friendly · teal #14B8A6 to green #22C55E
- Concepts
- • A. Coin pocket: a white jeans-style pocket with a gold coin peeking out, on a teal-to-green gradient
- • B. Tap coin: a white coin with a fingertip ripple, suggesting one-tap entry
- • C. Monogram: a rounded white "P" whose bowl is a coin
- Small-size test
- • At 29 px (the iOS Settings size) concept A stays readable; the stitching was removed so it doesn't turn to noise
- • Concept B's ripple disappears below 40 px
- • On a dark wallpaper, the gradient keeps enough contrast; a slight inner glow was added to concept C
- Chosen: concept A, exported
- iOS (from the 1024 master, square corners, no transparency)
- • 1024 x 1024 App Store icon
- • 180, 120, 167, 152, 87, 80, 58, 40 px, plus the Contents.json for an Xcode asset catalog
- Android
- • mipmap-mdpi 48, hdpi 72, xhdpi 96, xxhdpi 144, xxxhdpi 192 px
- • Adaptive icon: foreground 432 x 432 with the pocket inside the central safe zone (about 66% of the canvas, so masks don't clip it), plus a gradient background layer
- • 512 x 512 high-res icon for the Google Play listing
- Web: favicon 32 and 16 px, 192 and 512 px for a PWA manifest
- Files delivered
- • pocket_budget_icon_1024.png: the master
- • pocket_budget_icons.zip: ios/AppIcon.appiconset, android/mipmap-*, android/adaptive, web/

- • Compare with top apps in your category so yours doesn't look like a copy
- • Store requirements change; check the current Apple and Google Play guidelines
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and add your app name, what it does, style, colours, symbol idea and platforms.
- Paste it on the Today screen in todo.is or send it to your agent.
- Pick a concept from the small-size test, then download the ZIP with every size.
- Drop the folders into your project, and ask your agent for matching store screenshots or a feature graphic.
Tips for a better result
- Avoid words in the icon. Your app name already appears under it, and text is unreadable at small sizes.
- Use one symbol and two or three colours. Busy icons look blurry on home screens.
- Look at the top apps in your category and pick a colour that is different from them.
- Keep the 1024 x 1024 master. Your agent can regenerate every size from it when you update the design.
app icon generator: FAQ
- What size should an app icon be? Start with a 1024 x 1024 px master. iOS uses that for the App Store and smaller sizes on devices; Google Play needs a 512 x 512 listing icon and Android apps use 48 to 192 px launcher icons plus adaptive layers.
- Should I round the corners myself? No. Submit square icons; iOS and Android apply their own masks. Keep important parts away from the edges so nothing gets clipped.
- What is an Android adaptive icon? It is an icon split into a foreground and a background layer, so Android can show it as a circle, squircle or other shape. The symbol must sit inside the central safe zone.
- Can the agent upload the icon to the app stores? No. You add the icon files to your project and submit through App Store Connect or Google Play Console yourself.
