Brand mention monitoring that flags what needs a reply
Small brands get talked about in reviews, Reddit threads and niche blogs, and the one angry post you miss is the one that spreads. This prompt has your todo.is agent find new public mentions of your brand and products each day, sort them into positive, neutral and negative, and point out the few that need a reply or a fix.
The prompt
- Monitor public mentions of my brand [BRAND NAME] and these products: [PRODUCT NAMES]. My website is [WEBSITE] and my main competitors are [COMPETITORS]. Every day at 18:00, search news, blogs, Reddit, review sites, public forums and YouTube titles for new mentions since yesterday. For each mention give the source, a one-line summary, sentiment (positive, neutral, negative) and whether it needs action. Put "needs a reply" items first with a suggested reply in [TONE OF VOICE]. Once a week, compare our share of mentions and sentiment with the competitors. Send it to me on [WHERE TO SEND IT]. Don’t post or reply anywhere yourself.
What to change
- [BRAND NAME]: Your brand and common misspellings, e.g. "Lumenwave, Lumen Wave, LumenWave lamps".
- [PRODUCT NAMES]: e.g. "Halo desk lamp, Drift bedside light".
- [WEBSITE]: Your domain, so your agent can skip your own pages.
- [COMPETITORS]: 2 or 3 brands to compare with, e.g. "Brightnook and Oslo Lighting".
- [TONE OF VOICE]: e.g. "friendly and short, first name, no corporate phrases".
- [WHERE TO SEND IT]: Slack, email, WhatsApp, Telegram or Discord.
Example result
- Brand mentions · Lumenwave · Oct 8
- 11 new mentions since yesterday · 8 positive · 1 neutral · 2 negative
- Needs a reply
- 1. Reddit, home office subreddit (negative)
- "My Halo lamp started flickering after 3 months, support hasn’t answered in a week."
- Suggested reply: "Hi, I’m Sam from Lumenwave. Sorry about the flicker and the slow answer. That shouldn’t happen. Can you DM me your order number? We’ll send a replacement this week."
- 2. Review site (negative, 2 stars)
- Says the Drift light is "too dim for reading". Several older reviews say the same.
- Suggested reply: thank them, explain the brightness setting (hold for 3 seconds), offer a return. Product note: consider adding this to the quick-start card.
- Good to know (positive)
- • A design blog listed the Halo lamp in "10 desk lamps worth the money". Could be shared on your site.
- • YouTube setup tour (14k views) shows the Halo lamp; the creator tags your shop.
- • 5 positive reviews mention the warm light and solid base.
- Neutral
- • A forum thread compares Lumenwave and Brightnook on price; no strong opinion.
- Weekly comparison (last 7 days)
- • Lumenwave: 41 mentions, 76% positive
- • Brightnook: 58 mentions, 61% positive (many shipping complaints)
- • Oslo Lighting: 22 mentions, 82% positive
- Patterns this week
- • Flicker complaints: 3 this week, all Halo lamps bought in summer. Worth checking with your supplier.
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and fill in your brand, products, website and competitors.
- Paste it on the Today screen in todo.is or send it to your agent on Slack.
- Every evening your agent sends new mentions sorted by sentiment, with draft replies for the urgent ones.
- Post the replies yourself, and tell your agent "track flicker complaints as a theme" to follow a pattern.
Tips for a better result
- Include misspellings and product nicknames. Customers rarely type a brand name perfectly.
- Look for patterns, not single posts. Three similar complaints in a week is a product signal.
- Reply to negative posts fast and publicly, then move to private messages to fix the problem.
- Ask for a monthly PDF summary with the share of mentions so you can show the trend to your team.
brand mention monitoring: FAQ
- What is brand mention monitoring? It is tracking where people talk about your brand online, such as reviews, forums, news and social posts, so you can respond, learn from feedback and spot problems early.
- Can it find mentions on Instagram, TikTok or Facebook? Only public content your agent can open in a browser. Private accounts, groups and many in-app comments are not visible, so it focuses on the open web, Reddit, review sites and video titles.
- Will the agent reply to people for me? No. It drafts replies you can copy. It does not post on social networks or review sites for you.
- How does sentiment get decided? Your agent reads each mention and labels it positive, neutral or negative. Sarcasm can fool it now and then, so skim the negatives yourself.
