Google Business Profile description, written to fit the rules
Your Google Business Profile description has 750 characters to tell nearby customers why they should pick you, and many owners leave it empty or fill it with a slogan. This prompt has your todo.is agent read your website and reviews, then write three description options that name your services, area and real strengths.
The prompt
- Write my Google Business Profile description. Business: [BUSINESS NAME], a [BUSINESS TYPE] in [CITY OR AREA]. Website: [WEBSITE]. What makes us different: [WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT]. Read my website and recent Google reviews to find what customers praise most. Write 3 options, each under 750 characters, with the most important information in the first 250 characters because that is what people see before tapping "more". Mention my main services and the area naturally, once each, without keyword stuffing. Follow Google's rules: no links, no prices or promotions, no ALL CAPS, no phone numbers. Use a [TONE] tone. Also give me 5 short service descriptions under 300 characters I can add to my profile's services list.
What to change
- [BUSINESS NAME]: Your name as shown on Google, e.g. "Rosa's Bakery".
- [BUSINESS TYPE]: e.g. "family bakery", "electrician", "physiotherapy clinic".
- [CITY OR AREA]: e.g. "Lyon 3e" or "north Denver".
- [WEBSITE]: Your website or social page, so your agent can read your services.
- [WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT]: e.g. "sourdough baked every morning since 1998, gluten-free range".
- [TONE]: e.g. "warm and local" or "professional and calm".
Example result
- Option 1 (612 characters)
- Rosa's Bakery is a family bakery in north Denver baking sourdough, pastries and celebration cakes fresh every morning since 1998. Regulars come for our naturally fermented sourdough loaves and the cardamom buns that sell out by noon on weekends.
- We also bake a gluten-free range in a separate area, and we make custom birthday and wedding cakes to order. Stop in for coffee and a fresh croissant, or order a cake two weeks ahead for your event. Our team is happy to help with allergies, party sizes and special requests. Family-run, neighborhood-loved, and baking from scratch every day.
- Option 2 (518 characters, shorter)
- Fresh sourdough, pastries and custom cakes in north Denver, baked every morning since 1998. Rosa's Bakery is family-run and known for its slow-fermented bread, cardamom buns and a gluten-free range made in a separate area. Order birthday, wedding and office cakes two weeks ahead, or drop in for coffee and something warm from the oven.
- Why these work
- • The first 250 characters say what, where and why you.
- • Services and area appear naturally, once each.
- • Details from reviews ("cardamom buns", "sells out") feel real.
- • No links, prices, phone numbers or promotions, which Google does not allow in this field.
- Service descriptions
- • Sourdough bread: Naturally fermented loaves baked daily. White, whole wheat and seeded.
- • Custom cakes: Birthday, wedding and office cakes made to order. Please order two weeks ahead.
- • Gluten-free baking: Breads and treats made in a separate area of the kitchen.
- • Pastries: Croissants, cardamom buns and seasonal pastries every morning.
- • Coffee: Espresso drinks and filter coffee to enjoy with your pastry.
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and add your business name, area, website and strengths.
- Paste it on the Today screen in todo.is, or send it to your agent on WhatsApp.
- Your agent reads your site and reviews and writes 3 options plus service descriptions.
- Copy your favorite into your Google Business Profile under "Description" and save.
Tips for a better result
- Put what you do and where in the first sentence. Many people never tap "more".
- Use words from your reviews. If customers keep mentioning "fast" or "friendly", say it.
- Leave out offers and prices. Use Google posts for promotions instead.
- Do not stuff the city name five times. Once or twice, written naturally, reads better.
Google Business Profile description: FAQ
- How long can a Google Business Profile description be? Up to 750 characters. Only the first part shows before people tap to read more, so lead with the essentials.
- Does the business description help ranking? Google has said the description is mainly for customers, so its direct effect on ranking is small. A clear one can still help people choose you once they find you.
- What is not allowed in the description? Links, prices, promotions, phone numbers, ALL CAPS and misleading or offensive content are against Google's guidelines. Your description may be rejected if it includes them.
- How often should I update it? Update it when your services, area or what makes you special changes. Otherwise, once a year is a good time to review it.
