LinkedIn outreach messages written for each person
Most LinkedIn requests get ignored because they open with a pitch the moment someone accepts. This prompt has your agent read each prospect's public profile and posts, then write a short connection note that fits LinkedIn's character limit, a first message that starts a conversation, and two follow-ups that add value. You send them yourself.
The prompt
- Write LinkedIn outreach messages for these prospects: [PROSPECT PROFILES]. I am [YOUR ROLE AND OFFER] and I want to [OUTREACH GOAL]. For each person, read their public LinkedIn profile, recent posts and company website, and give me one detail to mention. Then write: a connection note under 300 characters with no pitch, a first message after they accept (under 80 words, one question), a follow-up after 5 days sharing something useful like [USEFUL RESOURCE], and a final short follow-up after 12 days. Tone: [TONE]. Put everything in an Excel sheet with columns name, profile link, detail, note, message 1, follow-up 1, follow-up 2, status, so I can copy each one and track replies.
What to change
- [PROSPECT PROFILES]: LinkedIn profile links, or attach a spreadsheet of names, roles and companies.
- [YOUR ROLE AND OFFER]: e.g. "a freelance UX designer for B2B SaaS teams".
- [OUTREACH GOAL]: e.g. "book intro calls", "find podcast guests", "reconnect with past clients".
- [USEFUL RESOURCE]: Something worth sharing, e.g. "my teardown of their signup page" or "a short guide I wrote".
- [TONE]: e.g. "friendly peer-to-peer, no sales language".
Example result
- Prospect: Anna Weber, Head of Product at Cartwise
- Detail found: Anna posted last week about their new self-serve onboarding and asked for feedback.
- Connection note (212 characters)
- Hi Anna, I read your post on Cartwise's new self-serve onboarding. I design onboarding flows for B2B SaaS teams and have a couple of thoughts on the first screen. Would be glad to connect.
- Message 1 (after she accepts)
- Thanks for connecting, Anna. Your post said activation is the main goal for the new flow. Out of curiosity, what step do most trial users drop off at right now?
- Follow-up 1 (day 5)
- Hi Anna, I went through the Cartwise signup myself and made a 4-slide teardown with two quick ideas for the first-run screen. Happy to send it over, no strings attached. Want it?
- Follow-up 2 (day 12)
- Hi Anna, I will leave it here so I do not crowd your inbox. If onboarding becomes a priority later this year, I would be glad to help. Good luck with the launch.
- Why this works
- • The note mentions her post, not the sender's services
- • Message 1 asks one question she can answer in a sentence
- • Follow-up 1 offers something useful before asking for anything
- • Follow-up 2 closes politely, which often gets the most replies
- Tracker columns
- Name | Profile | Detail | Note | Message 1 | Follow-up 1 | Follow-up 2 | Status (sent, accepted, replied, call booked)
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and replace the brackets with your prospects, offer, goal, resource and tone.
- Paste it into todo.is and attach your prospect list, or paste profile links.
- Your agent reads public profiles and builds an Excel tracker with every message ready to copy.
- Send the messages yourself on LinkedIn, then update the status column and ask for more prospects.
Tips for a better result
- Do not pitch in the connection note. Earn the conversation first.
- Mention one real detail, like a post or a career move. It proves you are not sending the same note to 500 people.
- Ask a question that is easy to answer in one line. Long asks get "seen" and no reply.
- Ask your agent to remember your offer and tone so next time you only paste new profile links.
LinkedIn outreach messages: FAQ
- How long can a LinkedIn connection note be? LinkedIn limits connection notes to a few hundred characters, and free accounts may have stricter limits. Keep it under 300 characters to be safe.
- How many LinkedIn follow-ups should I send? One or two, a few days apart, each adding something useful. Stop if there is no reply after that.
- Does todo.is send LinkedIn messages for me? No. Your agent researches public profiles and writes the messages. You send them yourself, which also keeps your account safe.
- Should I send a connection note or connect without one? For outreach, a short personal note usually gets more accepts than a blank request, because it explains why you want to connect.
