A marketing plan you can start on Monday
Posting a bit on Instagram and running an ad when sales dip is not a marketing plan. A real one says who you are trying to reach, which two or three channels matter, what you will do each week and how you will know it worked. This prompt has your agent research your market and competitors and write that plan, with a 90-day calendar and a budget split.
The prompt
- Write a 90-day marketing plan for [BUSINESS NAME] ([WEBSITE]), which sells [WHAT YOU SELL] to [TARGET CUSTOMERS] in [LOCATION]. Goal: [MAIN GOAL]. Monthly budget: [MONTHLY BUDGET]. Research 3 competitors and how they market themselves, with links. Include: situation summary, target audience and their main buying triggers, positioning and key message, the 3 best channels for this business and why (and which to ignore for now), a 90-day week-by-week action calendar, budget split by channel, content ideas for the first month, KPIs with targets, and a simple monthly review. Deliver the plan as a Word document and the calendar and budget as an Excel file.
What to change
- [BUSINESS NAME]: e.g. "Stonebridge Pilates".
- [WEBSITE]: Your site or social page, e.g. "stonebridgepilates.com".
- [WHAT YOU SELL]: e.g. "reformer Pilates classes and memberships".
- [TARGET CUSTOMERS]: e.g. "women 30 to 55 who work nearby".
- [LOCATION]: e.g. "central Leeds", or "online, US and Canada".
- [MAIN GOAL]: One number, e.g. "60 new members by March" or "$20k monthly online sales".
- [MONTHLY BUDGET]: e.g. "$1,500 a month plus 5 hours of my time a week".

marketing plan: FAQ
- What should a marketing plan include? Your situation, goals, target audience, positioning and message, chosen channels, an action calendar, a budget and KPIs with a regular review.
- How much should a small business spend on marketing? It varies by industry and stage. Many small businesses set aside a fixed share of revenue or a monthly amount, then adjust based on cost per customer.
- What is the difference between a marketing plan and a marketing strategy? Strategy is who you target and how you position yourself. The plan turns that into specific actions, dates, budgets and targets.
- Can my agent remind me of the weekly tasks? Yes. Make it a recurring to-do and your agent sends this week's tasks by email, WhatsApp or Telegram.
