Crop image files to the ratio you need, subject centered
Your team photo has too much ceiling, your profile picture needs to be square with your face in the middle, or 40 product photos have messy edges. Your todo.is agent crops each image to the shape you name and keeps the important part, such as a face or a product, in frame, then sends back clean copies.
The prompt
- Crop the attached images: [ATTACH THE IMAGES]. Crop to [RATIO OR SIZE]. Keep [WHAT MUST STAY IN FRAME] centered and fully visible, and leave [MARGIN] around it. Don't cut off heads, hands or text. If an image is too small for the crop, tell me instead of enlarging it. Save as [FORMAT] in full quality and send a contact sheet of all results so I can check them at a glance.
What to change
- [ATTACH THE IMAGES]: Attach the images (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC). One or many.
- [RATIO OR SIZE]: E.g. "1:1 square", "4:5 portrait", "16:9", "3:2", "exactly 400 x 400 px" or "just remove the black borders".
- [WHAT MUST STAY IN FRAME]: E.g. "the person's face", "the product", "both people" or "the text on the sign".
- [MARGIN]: E.g. "a little space", "tight crop" or "about 10% on each side".
- [FORMAT]: E.g. "same as original", "JPG" or "PNG".
Example result
- Crop report: 8 team photos for the website
- Ratio 1:1 · face centered · a little headroom · JPG, full quality
- Results
- • anna_k.jpg: 4032 x 3024 → 2400 x 2400 px. Face at upper third, shoulders included
- • marco_d.jpg: 3000 x 4000 → 2600 x 2600 px. Cropped a doorway on the left
- • li_wei.jpg: 2048 x 1536 → 1400 x 1400 px. Was slightly tilted; straightened by 2°
- • sara_m.jpg: 1080 x 1350 → 1080 x 1080 px. Tight already, only the bottom trimmed
- • ... 4 more, all shown on Contact_sheet.jpg
- How your agent decided the crop
- • Found the face in each photo and placed the eyes about one third from the top, a classic portrait rule
- • Kept the same face size across all 8 photos, so the team page looks consistent
- • Left a small space above the head; nobody's chin or hair is cut off
- Needs your eye
- • tom_r.jpg is only 640 x 480 px. The square crop is 480 x 480 px, smaller than the others. A larger original would look better on high-resolution screens
- Popular crop ratios
- • 1:1: profile pictures, shop thumbnails, Instagram square
- • 4:5: Instagram portrait posts
- • 9:16: Stories, Reels, TikTok
- • 16:9: YouTube thumbnails, slides, website banners
- • 3:2: standard camera photos and prints (10 x 15 cm)
- • 2:3 or 35 x 45 mm: many passport photos, but check the official rules
- Good to know
- • Cropping never adds detail: a tight crop of a small photo gives a small image
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and choose the shape and what must stay in frame.
- Attach the photos on the Today screen in todo.is, or send them to your agent on Telegram or WhatsApp as files.
- Your agent crops each one, keeps the subject in place and makes a contact sheet.
- Check the contact sheet and reply "show more of the background on photo 3" to fix any crop.
Tips for a better result
- Tell your agent what matters in the picture. A crop that is centered on the photo is not always centered on the person.
- For a team page or product grid, ask for the same face or product size in every crop. It makes the set look professional.
- Crop from the original, not from a screenshot. You keep more pixels to work with.
- Need a crop for several platforms? Ask for 1:1, 4:5 and 16:9 versions of each photo in one go.
crop image: FAQ
- How do I crop an image to a square? Ask for a 1:1 crop and say what to keep centered, such as the face. Your agent cuts each photo to a perfect square around it.
- Can it crop many images to the same size? Yes. Attach them all and your agent crops each one to the same ratio or pixel size.
- Does cropping reduce image quality? It keeps the pixels inside the crop as they are, so sharpness stays the same. The image just gets smaller in pixels.
- Can it remove black borders or white edges? Yes. Ask to trim borders, and your agent detects the edges and crops them away.
