Ecommerce email flows written and timed for your store
Automated emails often bring in a big share of a store's email revenue, yet many shops only have a basic order confirmation. This prompt has your agent map the five flows every store needs, with triggers, timing and full copy written for your products, ready to paste into your email tool.
The prompt
- Write the core ecommerce email flows for my store [STORE WEBSITE], which sells [WHAT YOU SELL]. I use [EMAIL TOOL]. Create 5 flows: welcome series (3 emails), abandoned cart (3 emails), browse abandonment (1 email), post-purchase (3 emails including a review request and a cross-sell), and win-back for customers who haven't bought in [WIN-BACK DAYS] days (2 emails). For each email give the trigger, delay, filter (for example exclude people who purchased), subject line, preview text and full body. Use our voice from the website, and the offer [WELCOME OFFER] only in the welcome series. Deliver a Word doc with all the copy and a flow map table, and an Excel sheet with timings.
What to change
- [STORE WEBSITE]: Your store link, e.g. "lumacandles.com". Your agent reads it to match your voice.
- [WHAT YOU SELL]: Your products in a few words, e.g. "natural skincare for sensitive skin".
- [EMAIL TOOL]: Your email platform, e.g. "Klaviyo", "Shopify Email" or "Mailchimp".
- [WIN-BACK DAYS]: When a customer counts as lapsed, e.g. "90" for a monthly product, "180" for furniture.
- [WELCOME OFFER]: Your sign-up incentive, e.g. "10% off the first order" or "free shipping".
Example result
- Flow map
- • Welcome: trigger = joins list. Email 1 now, email 2 after 2 days, email 3 after 4 days. Exit if they buy.
- • Abandoned cart: trigger = started checkout. 1 hour, 24 hours, 48 hours. Exit if they buy.
- • Browse abandonment: trigger = viewed a product twice, no cart. One email after 4 hours. Skip if they got a cart email in the last 7 days.
- • Post-purchase: trigger = order placed. Day 1 (thank you and what to expect), day 10 after delivery (review request), day 21 (cross-sell).
- • Win-back: trigger = 90 days since last order. Day 0 and day 7.
- Welcome email 1
- Subject: Welcome to Luma, here's 10% off
- Preview: Calm skin starts here
- Hi {first_name},
- Thanks for joining us. We make skincare for people whose skin reacts to almost everything: short ingredient lists, no added fragrance.
- Here's 10% off your first order: WELCOME10
- Not sure where to start? Most people begin with our Gentle Cleanser and Barrier Cream.
- Abandoned cart email 1 (1 hour)
- Subject: Still thinking it over?
- Preview: Your cart is saved
- You left {product_name} in your cart. It's saved for you. Questions about ingredients? Just reply to this email and a real person will answer.
- Abandoned cart email 3 (48 hours)
- Subject: Last reminder about your cart
- Add social proof: one short customer review of the product in the cart. No discount here, so people don't learn to wait.
- Post-purchase day 10: review request
- Subject: How is your skin feeling?
- Ask for a review with one click, and offer help if things aren't going well.
- Win-back email 1
- Subject: We've missed you, {first_name}
- Show what's new since their last order and their past favorite product.
- Setup notes
- • Turn on flows in this order: abandoned cart, welcome, post-purchase, then the rest
- • Check each flow's exit filters so buyers don't get cart reminders
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and add your website, products, email tool, win-back timing and welcome offer.
- Paste it into todo.is on the Today screen or send it to your agent on Telegram or email.
- Your agent reads your site, writes all 12 emails and sends the Word doc and timing sheet.
- Paste the copy into your email tool. Ask for A/B subject lines or a shorter version of any email.
Tips for a better result
- Launch the abandoned cart flow first. It catches people who were already about to buy.
- Don't put a discount in the first cart email. Save it for the last one, or skip it so customers don't learn to wait.
- Exclude recent buyers from every flow except post-purchase. Nothing annoys a customer more than a cart reminder after buying.
- Ask your agent to remember your brand voice and offer, so future campaigns sound the same.
ecommerce email flows: FAQ
- What email flows should an ecommerce store have? The core five are welcome, abandoned cart, browse abandonment, post-purchase and win-back. Many stores add a replenishment flow for products that run out.
- How many emails should an abandoned cart flow have? Two or three is common, usually within the first two days. The first one often goes out about an hour after the cart is left.
- Can todo.is set up the flows inside Klaviyo for me? Your agent writes the copy, timing and filters for you to set up. It can work in a browser on your instructions, but it asks for your OK before changing settings.
- Do I need consent to send these emails? Marketing emails generally need consent, and rules differ by country. Abandoned cart and welcome emails should only go to people who agreed to hear from you.
