Handwriting to text converter for notes, letters and journals
Handwritten meeting notes, a lecture notebook, a grandparent's letters or a journal are hard to search and share. Your todo.is agent reads photos or scans of handwriting with AI vision, types them up, keeps your structure and marks words it is not sure about instead of guessing.
The prompt
- Type up the handwriting in the attached photos: [ATTACH THE PHOTOS]. It is written in [LANGUAGE] by [WHO WROTE IT]. Keep the order of the pages, the line breaks for lists and the paragraphs for prose. Keep crossed-out words as ~~strikethrough~~ and put arrows or margin notes in (note: ...). Where you cannot read a word, write (?) or your best guess with a question mark. Then [WHAT NEXT]. Give me a Word file and the plain text in the chat.
What to change
- [ATTACH THE PHOTOS]: Attach photos or scans of the pages, in order. Phone photos are fine.
- [LANGUAGE]: E.g. "English", "Italian" or "English with some medical terms".
- [WHO WROTE IT]: E.g. "me, in fast cursive", "my grandmother in the 1960s" or "a student, in print letters". It helps with the style.
- [WHAT NEXT]: E.g. "turn action items into a checklist", "fix spelling but not wording" or "nothing".

How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and say who wrote the notes and what you want done with them.
- Snap the pages and send them to your agent on WhatsApp or Telegram, or attach them in todo.is.
- Your agent reads the handwriting, types it up and marks unclear words.
- Read the marked words against the photo, reply with corrections, and download the Word file.
Tips for a better result
- Photograph each page flat, from straight above, in daylight. Shadows and angles cause most mistakes.
- Tell your agent about names, places or jargon in the notes. A short word list helps it read them right.
- For old letters in faded ink, ask your agent to boost the contrast of the photos first.
- Take notes by hand every day? Send each page to your agent and ask it to add the action items to your to-dos.
handwriting to text converter: FAQ
- Can AI read cursive handwriting? Yes, most clear cursive can be read well. Very messy or unusual handwriting will have more unclear words, which are marked rather than guessed.
- Can it read old letters or historical handwriting? It can often read old letters, especially with good photos. Old scripts like Kurrent or very faded ink are harder, so check the result carefully.
- Does it work for handwritten math or diagrams? Simple formulas can be typed out. Diagrams are described in a note rather than redrawn.
- Can I get the notes as a to-do list? Yes. Ask your agent to pull out action items, and they come back as a checklist.
