PNG to JPG converter that makes large images light
A PNG photo or screenshot can be 10 times the size it needs to be, which is why upload forms reject it and email bounces it. Your todo.is agent converts PNGs to JPG, picks a quality that keeps them looking right, fills transparency properly and tells you how much space you saved.
The prompt
- Convert the attached PNG files to JPG: [ATTACH THE PNG FILES]. Target: [TARGET]. Fill transparent areas with [BACKGROUND]. [RESIZE]. Strip hidden metadata. Show me a table of each file with its size before and after, and warn me about any image with small text or sharp lines that would look better kept as PNG.
What to change
- [ATTACH THE PNG FILES]: Attach the PNGs, or a ZIP.
- [TARGET]: E.g. "quality 85", or "each file under 500 KB for an upload form".
- [BACKGROUND]: E.g. "white" or "#000000".
- [RESIZE]: E.g. "keep the size" or "max 1920 px wide".
Example result
- PNG to JPG: blog images
- 12 PNG in · 12 JPG out · quality 85 · max 1920 px · 58 MB → 6.1 MB
- Size before and after
- • hero-mountains.png · 14.2 MB → 640 KB
- • team-photo.png · 9.8 MB → 520 KB
- • kitchen-before.png · 6.1 MB → 480 KB
- • kitchen-after.png · 6.3 MB → 495 KB
- • pricing-screenshot.png · 0.9 MB → 310 KB · flagged
- • diagram-flow.png · 0.4 MB → 260 KB · flagged
- • …
- • Total: 58 MB → 6.1 MB (about 90% smaller)
- Why photos shrink so much
- PNG is lossless, so a 4000 px photo saved as PNG keeps every pixel of camera noise. JPG at quality 85 drops detail your eye does not notice. For photos, that is the right trade.
- The two flagged files
- • pricing-screenshot.png and diagram-flow.png are mostly text and thin lines. As JPG they show faint blur around letters, and they barely got smaller
- • Recommendation: keep these as PNG, or ask your agent to compress the PNG instead (fewer colours, same sharpness)
- Other details
- • 1 image had a transparent background; it was filled with white
- • Metadata such as editing software and colour notes were removed, saving a few KB each
- • Resized to 1920 px wide, the largest size most blog themes show
How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and set a quality or size target.
- Attach the PNGs in todo.is, or send them to your agent on WhatsApp, Telegram or Slack.
- Your agent converts them and sends a ZIP plus a before/after size table.
- Ask for tweaks like "quality 90 for the hero image only".
Tips for a better result
- Use JPG for photos and PNG for screenshots, logos and diagrams. Your agent flags files that are on the wrong side.
- Quality 80 to 85 is the sweet spot for web photos. Below 70, banding shows in skies and gradients.
- Resizing often saves more than the format change. A 6000 px image on a 1200 px blog column is wasted.
- If a site needs a strict limit like "under 200 KB", give that number rather than a quality.
PNG to JPG converter: FAQ
- Does PNG to JPG reduce quality? Yes, slightly, because JPG is lossy. At quality 85 or higher it is hard to see on photos, but text and lines can get soft.
- Why is my PNG so large? PNG keeps every pixel without compression loss. That is great for graphics and wasteful for photos.
- What happens to a transparent background? JPG cannot store transparency, so it is filled with white or a colour you choose.
- Can I convert JPG back to PNG later? Yes, but it will not bring back detail lost in the JPG. Keep the original PNG if you might need it.
