A rank tracker that checks Google for you every week
Checking 20 keywords by hand every Monday gets old fast, and the results change depending on where you search from. This prompt sets up a recurring to-do: your todo.is agent searches Google for each keyword from the location you pick, records where your site appears, keeps a history in Excel and messages you only the changes that matter.
The prompt
- Track Google rankings for my site [YOUR DOMAIN] every [SCHEDULE]. Keywords: [KEYWORD LIST]. Search each keyword on Google as a user in [COUNTRY AND CITY], in a clean browser with no personalization, and record the position of my best-ranking page in the top 50 results, the URL that ranks, and whether there is a featured snippet, map pack or video block above me. Also note the top 3 results each time. Keep a history in an Excel file (one row per keyword per date) and a chart of the last 12 checks. Send me a short summary on [WHERE TO SEND]: keywords that moved 3+ positions, new top-10 entries, drops out of the top 20, and any keyword where a different URL of mine started ranking. Skip the message if nothing changed.
What to change
- [YOUR DOMAIN]: The site to track, e.g. "greenleafplumbing.com". Subdomains count separately, so say if you want them included.
- [SCHEDULE]: How often to check, e.g. "Monday at 8:00" or "day at 7:00". Weekly is enough for most sites and uses fewer credits.
- [KEYWORD LIST]: 10 to 50 keywords, comma-separated, or attach a CSV. Include your brand name as a sanity check.
- [COUNTRY AND CITY]: Where your customers search, e.g. "United States, Denver". Local results differ a lot between cities.
- [WHERE TO SEND]: WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord or email.
Example result
- Weekly ranking update: greenleafplumbing.com
- Checked Monday 8:00, Google, Denver (United States), 24 keywords.
- Moved up
- • water heater repair denver: #14 to #8 (/water-heater-repair). First time in the top 10.
- • tankless water heater installation: #22 to #16
- • emergency plumber denver: #11 to #9. A map pack shows above all organic results.
- Moved down
- • sewer line replacement cost: #6 to #12. A new cost guide from a national directory took #3.
- • drain cleaning near me: #9 to #13. Results vary a lot by neighborhood for "near me" searches.
- Watch out
- • leak detection denver is now ranking with /blog/find-a-hidden-leak instead of /leak-detection. Two of your pages may be competing for the same search.
- Unchanged (17)
- • Brand search "greenleaf plumbing": #1 with sitelinks
- • 16 other keywords within 2 positions of last week
- What to do this week
- • Add a short cost table and an updated date to /sewer-line-replacement to compete with the new guide.
- • Link from the leak blog post to /leak-detection with the anchor "leak detection in Denver".
- • Keep an eye on "water heater repair denver": pages that just entered the top 10 often bounce for a week or two.

How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and fill in your domain, keywords, location and schedule.
- Paste it into todo.is on the Today screen, or send it to your agent on WhatsApp or Telegram. It becomes a recurring to-do.
- The first run gives you a baseline and the Excel file. Later runs only message you about changes.
- Reply to add or remove keywords, change the city, or switch from weekly to daily at any time.
Tips for a better result
- Track the searches that bring customers, not vanity terms. Ten keywords with buying intent beat a hundred loose ones.
- Rankings move every day. Judge trends over 3 to 4 checks before rewriting a page.
- For local businesses, track the same keyword from two or three neighborhoods to see how much the map pack shifts.
- If Search Console is set up, attach its query export once a month so your agent can compare checked positions with Google's own averages.
rank tracker: FAQ
- How accurate is an AI rank tracker? Your agent reads real Google results from the location you choose, in a clean browser. Positions can still differ from what you see at home, because Google personalizes results and tests layouts constantly.
- How often should I track keyword rankings? Weekly is enough for most small sites. Daily checks make sense during a launch, a site migration or after a big content update.
- What is the difference between a rank tracker and Search Console? Search Console shows your average position across all searchers over a period. A rank tracker checks a specific keyword from a specific place at a specific time, which is easier to compare week to week.
- Does each check use credits? Yes, each run of a recurring to-do uses a few AI credits. Fewer keywords and a weekly schedule keep it light.
