A word of the day picked for your level and goals
Generic word-of-the-day lists jump from easy words to ones nobody uses. This prompt has your todo.is agent pick one useful word a day for your level and purpose, like work English, the SAT or learning Spanish, explain it simply with examples, and quiz you on the week's words every Sunday.
The prompt
- Send me a word of the day on [WHERE TO SEND] every day at [TIME]. Language: [LANGUAGE]. My level is [LEVEL] and I want words useful for [PURPOSE]. For each word give: the word, part of speech, simple pronunciation, a short meaning in plain English, 2 natural example sentences, one common collocation, and a synonym. Never repeat a word. Every Sunday, instead of a new word, send a 7-question quiz on the week's words and wait for my answers, then tell me which I got wrong. Keep a list of all my words and send it to me as an Excel file at the end of each month.
What to change
- [WHERE TO SEND]: WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord or email.
- [TIME]: e.g. "8:00" or "during my commute at 7:40".
- [LANGUAGE]: e.g. "English", "Spanish" or "German". For other languages, add "with English translations".
- [LEVEL]: e.g. "B2 upper intermediate", "native speaker", "beginner".
- [PURPOSE]: e.g. "business emails and meetings", "SAT and GRE prep", "travel conversations", "writing fiction".

How to do it with todo.is
- Copy the prompt and set your language, level and purpose in the [brackets].
- Send it to your todo.is agent on Telegram or WhatsApp, or paste it into the Today screen.
- Answer the Sunday quiz by replying in the chat. Your agent marks it and repeats words you missed.
- Ask for changes anytime, like "harder words" or "add the word in French too".
Tips for a better result
- Choose a purpose. Words for business emails or exam prep stick better than random rare words.
- Write your own sentence with each word and send it back. Your agent can correct it, which helps memory far more than reading.
- Ask for collocations (words that go together). Knowing "make a decision" matters more than knowing "decision".
- Import the monthly Excel list into a flashcard app for spaced repetition.
